whats odd is 90% of a Bridgeport is metric ALL the bearings and shafts are I guess because designed by Swedes

It has been a long time since I had Bridgeports but I thought mine were imperial but maybe I am just not remembering correctly.

I thought it would be but i crossed checked with suppliers in the states and all standard metric codes, some have special grinds on faces though for preload which is why they are 4x as much

Just checked some bearings that I think were from the X axis of the Bridgeport I had and they are indeed metric

Repaired this combine knife drive the other day.

A tapered ball joint fits in this bit but the hole was in a mess.
I welded the ball joint and this bit together in the field so he could finish.

Once the field was done i had this bit and the ball joint off and cut them apart.

Welded the hole up fully then machined it back out with the required taper on my lashed together jig.

This part wasn't available for a couple of weeks and £600. I think they were probably going to have to make one. They did have the ball joint. The combine is about 30 years old.

Next bit of tinkering was a rotating earth clamp like Kurtis from CEE uses.
Only thing left to do is drill and tap a M 12 hole in the rotating bronze contact, but also thinking about putting a knurl on the bronze bits just for looks.
What do you lot think? Knurl the brass contacts or leave the plain?

DIY machine torch for the plasma. Saved myself around £700 over buying a "proper" SL100 torch. 40mm delrin bar, bored and threaded to suit a new torch body, then assembled using the lead off my spare hand torch. No idea if it works yet... will be a week or two before I get back to it.

Machined this up to get a stuck rotor out of a centrifuge, there's a nut welded in there. Worked a treat to separate the taper on the rotor from the motor spindle.

First time I'd used the lathe for ages. I wish I had more jobs that needed it.

1-15/16" hole through chrome bar. Will have to borrow a big boring bar from work monday to finish out to 65mm.

One more to do after this one.

Made some spacer rings for my diff spool out of 140mm×17mm wall en16t,
A bit of a waste of material really from 17mm thick to 5.5mm but its all I had.

I'll show you wasteful next week. 150mm solid cast iron bar into a 3mm wall bearing sleeve. Criminal. I'm trying to find a supplier for the Cast iron EZE-Sleeves they have in america

I believe you can get cast 'tube' if you like, A mate of mine ordered some cast to size ,probably a bit spendy though for just a bit.
