Your intake manifold will be filled with the most fearsome, oily shite you’ve ever seen. I’ve known some FL lads buy a spare manifold and leave it soaking in oven cleaner for months.
He raises some interesting points 're EGR, and the vacuum system.
I was thinking a cork, from a bottle of wine looked pretty suitable.Your intake manifold will be filled with the most fearsome, oily shite you’ve ever seen. I’ve known some FL lads buy a spare manifold and leave it soaking in oven cleaner for months.
You can just ‘blank’ the EGR by pulling off the vacuum hose and plugging it. See if it makes a difference.
Turbo boost solenoid a common failure point.
In the EGR exhaust entry? Would probably burn out.I was thinking a cork, from a bottle of wine looked pretty suitable.
Where's the turbo boost solenoid please, and how do I check it ?
Much appreciated. Thanks. In the EGR exhaust entry? Would probably burn out.

Under the car, looking forwards towards the engine on the right-hand side, circled. WA is the wastegate actuator, turbo behind. IRD is the intermediate reduction drive, or transfer box.
If you’re not getting turbo or power-related problems, don’t worry about it. Just something to keep in mind,
Thanks, your a wealth of knowledge, much appreciated.I think you can test the solenoid by getting someone to rev the engine while you watch the wastegate. It should move in and out. If not, check the vac pipes, if ok, replace the solenoid.
I could be wrong but doesn't it need to be under load to test in this way? I'm thinking of the mechanical type actuators so this might act differently.I think you can test the solenoid by getting someone to rev the engine while you watch the wastegate. I find AF are pretty good for parts diagrams too. I buy a fair bit from them these days, but also use the site for looking up part numbers fairly quickly - freelander link - https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/land-rover-freelander-1-l314-1996-2006-8-c.aspRimmer Brothers have an online parts catalogue if you need it.
Didn't know you could get an oil that causes miss firesSo, day off today.
Effectively, I found a hole in a boost pipe, cleaned the MAF senser, dismantled the engine crank case breather filter, which was beyond disgusting.
New one arrives tomorrow.
