I have found they like to guzzle their own oil, even with the new vortex breather, Crankcase pressure is always high on BMW M47 and M57 engines. If you undo the filler cap with the engine running, you will see what I mean.
Oil in the intake system always softens the intercooler hoses, and they split. They also split if you do up the hoseclips too tight.

The last one I had, I vented the cranckcase to atmosphere via a catch tank.

Done this mod to my last 535...no more oil filled hoses.

Get the ginger with glasses to rev it up to about 2000 rpm and feel around all the hoses and see if you can feel any air blowing out.

Unlikely, but the intercooler might be punctured, OR might be half full of oil, which would not surprise me.

If its any help, to trace boost leaks I plug the exhaust outlet and intake from the filter with bungs and the intake bung I have a airline fitting in, and I pressurise this to about 4psi or whatever you feel comfortable with as boost pressure for that vehicle with the compressor using the compressors reg to keep the pressure to 4psi. Then I just go round feeling for with the back of my hand wetted, listening for or spraying it with washing up liquid and water mixed in a squirty and look for leaks. If you can crank it over to a position where all the intake valves are shut you can restrict this to the intake side of things.
Found all sorts like this, clamps leaking, wastegate actuators split, vacuum hoses & sensor connections done in single walled tubing that inflate like balloons at normal boost pressure and loosen off the barbs & leak etc. And its a lot easier to trace things without the row of a motor running.

Yep. I once had a Rover 200 with the Pug XUD engine and the intake pipework looked a bit oily. I took the intercooler out, tipped it up and a fair bit of black sludge came out.

I half filled it with petrol, gave it a good shake, rinse and repeat until it came out clear.
Top tip: blow the vapour out really thoroughly before putting it back, or things will get very exciting when you fire it up...
