Dextron 2 is more viscous than Dextron 3. When I had my auto Gaylander it was recommended to use N402 because of shift quality and squawk so thats what I used after I had a problem with harsh engagement.
I guess the people that make these oils know what they are doing, but this is the problem with all aftermarket stuff. It will fit, but is it right ?
I notice that a few suppliers still sell N402 spec in its own right.
Lets face it, you can stick any oil in your gearbox or engine and it will work. They will not fail immediately, but by how much will it shorten the life of said items ? Your engine or gearbox may have lasted another ten years on the proper stuff, but if it only lasts for a year (or less) how would you ever had known ? And how many will chase an oil supplier and go though the process of lab testing, expert witness etc to claim from them ?
Bit extreme yes, but true nevertheless. When I worked in the Agri and Plant industry, most failures were down to incorrect lubricants and cheap, low spec filters.
