Adopt one, from the dog shelter ? No need to deal with a puppy. My biggest issue is my age. Getting another dog is easy when your 30 or so.... on the rebound. But at 73 he was going to see me out. I reckoned on being 81 when he shuffled off (if he was first). So total f'up. Getting pacemaker soon so I'll live forever. But no Benji.

Just a thought, lots of dogs needing homes.
Yep, aplologies, it will take some time, but once you've got / had dogs they do become integral, I find.Nice thought, but probably very raw at the moment.
It would have to be 25 teaspoons (50lb dog) which is about half a small wine glass for ethylene glycol. Which is probably 2 slurps? For MethanolSorry to hear of your loss.
How much screenwash do you reckon the dog drank?
Have to be careful with that. Need to know what demons they're fighting. Daughter got a dog with hip issues not divulged by rehoming centre (dog's trust or such) confidential information?Adopt one, from the dog shelter ? No need to deal with a puppy.

All antifreeze is poisonous as far as I know I've heard of people lacing tuna or steak and throwing it over a fence to get rid of a dog or cat, nasty stuff
Getting it lab analysed might be the answer. But it seems from the datasheet early that's methanol.....who knowsAntifreeze likely (as in ‘usually’) contains ethylene glycol which is decidedly poisonous (and sweet tasting).
People have been poisoned by people ‘sweetening‘ wine.
Ethylene glycol should not be in screenwadh - it attacks paint-work - so it is likely methanol that was the poisonous content. Methylated sprits is ethanol denatured with methanol - causing blindness (and death) of down-and-out alcoholics. It affects the liver as well, I believe.
Methanol based antifreeze is not common these days. It was until about 40-50 years ago (but evaporated quite quickly when in use).
The outcome, if it was the suspect screen-wash, is reprehensible. I expect it is likely not the only identical product on the market.
I don’t use screen wash if I can avoid it. I use some ethanol - it doesn’t generally need much in the UK.
Get a part worn one, that’s what we did for my mother. We went to the shelter & got one that the owner had died, I think they were glad to get rid of the dog as it was about 6 or 7 years old & people that wanted an older dog were limited, but it suited mother as she was about 80 at the time. I know it’s no substitute though, but will help. Really sorry for your loss.My biggest issue is my age. Getting another dog is easy when your 30 or so.... on the rebound. The MSDS for Asda screenwash indicates that it contains 5-10% ethanol, 1-5% isopropyl alcohol, 0.5% methanol and 0.1% butyl glycol. The balance, around 90%, will be water. There's no mention of ethylene glycol, or propylene glycol, at all. The antifreeze effect will be provided largely by the ethanol.
The poor dog would have had to have imbibed an awful lot of the screenwash to have achieved acutely toxic levels of the alcohols.
I'm almost caught up with you age-wise, @prepman, and I know your feelings exactly. When our last dog passed away, it was like losing a member of the family, and we're still divided as to whether we want to get another one or not. In the meantime, we've donated what we can to several animal welfare organizations, which in a way is kinda/sorta like vicariously having pets. We still may end up getting another dog, or a pair of them, but we would want to fence our yard first, not just to keep the dogs in (when they're not in the house or being walked), but also to keep unwanted critters out of the yard and away from the dog(s), as we live in a forested area with tons of wildlife, ranging from chipmunks all the way up to bears and moose. My biggest issue is my age. It also damages some of the new types of waterbased paintwork systems.
