Because of the war in Ukraine. Because of windmills and solar. 30 years of neglecting nuclear power and Gordon Brown selling off Westinghouse. All the subsidies paid to people to have solar panels. The RHI being used to heat derelict buildings. Politicians who have no clue ramming green policies down out throats. The list is endless.Tories...
If no one is making a profit why are energy bills being hiked almost monthly.
And if they remembered to order they sometimes got that wrong, we opened a new pallet of pistons for the K series engine build only to find the Ford logo on the pistons!I remember someone who worked in the research dept at Leyland telling me that if the purchasing dept forgot to order some parts that were needed on the production line, management would send the most obnoxious junior down on a pretext to annoy the workers to the point where they all walked out. That's no way to run a company and can't possibly ever succeed.
To my knowledge, no wind turbine site has been reclaimed to original condition.Be interesting to see the 'cradle to grave' financial cost and environmental impact of one of the big windmills, including decommissioning and correct disposal of the parts.
And even more interesting to see if they actually ever pay for themselves, in both respects.
That is what a big hammer is forAnd if they remembered to order they sometimes got that wrong, we opened a new pallet of pistons for the K series engine build only to find the Ford logo on the pistons!
I suppose the cost of installation must be pretty close to the cost of removal. To my knowledge, no wind turbine site has been reclaimed to original condition.
Just removing a concrete base is estimated to cost $2,500,000.
True dat. It's grown in the field opposite my house. Can't say I've noticed a pong though unlike when the farmer gets his muck spreader out.East Anglia is full of the stuff. As are many fields around Hereford.
Gordon Clown sold off Westinghouse. Not quite true! EDF is (mostly) owned by the french government. France is currently importing as much as 3GW at times, from the UK - that is as much as 10% of the UK output. True that EDF is one of the BIG SIX energysuppliersretailers in the UK. Just a shame the the UK sold off its industry to other countries. They only bought those assets to make profits, didn’t they?
Think here, too, who owns and runs our water industry? Not much is British any more. Will EDF decommission t the nuclear sites when they have run them to their end of life, while taking the profits in the meantime?
Hope not. The spin the media will put on it will end up with more panic buying for no reason!!E10 price gone up to £1.79 near me in Stafford. Crept up 6p in the last week. I think this is the highest I've ever seen it, not sure if it's being mentioned in the media.
Yes, I used to go to Halewood a lot too . . . never, ever, turn away from a tool put down for a second . . .That is what a big hammer is for
Seriously though the attitude of workers in some of these places is shocking.
When I worked in IT we went on various contracts to car plants.
In one Ford plant the security was really OTT.
When I asked why they had bars on the windows and computers locked up in theft proof cabinets I was told the kit would go walkies otherwise. I said the onsite security looked pretty good. Ahh but it's the staff who nick everything not the outsiders![]()
Think the cost would be dependent on size and might come down if there were several on site. However, in most circumstances, I expect the lumps would remain and be mounded over. Or be reused to put up a newer turbine, or be repurposed - should be a decent electric supply cable there! Either way, I can think of worse things to have burried just below the surface. To my knowledge, no wind turbine site has been reclaimed to original condition.

Yes I have no doubt they will. Large ones are more efficient.![]()
Mini nuclear power stations may produce more waste than large ones
Small modular nuclear reactors may produce higher volumes and greater complexity of radioactive waste because they are naturally less efficient, researchers findwww.newscientist.com
You can blame “people” if you prefer, or you can actually look at the overwhelmingly massive reason so few have been built in the last 30 years (which is that they are massively expensive).Yes I have no doubt they will. Large ones are more efficient.
But the public are so stupid they seem to find SMRs more tolerable. And obviously build cost is far less so they can be delivered much faster.
It is the NIMBY attitude mainly. You can blame “people” if you prefer, or you can actually look at the overwhelmingly massive reason so few have been built in the last 30 years (which is that they are massively expensive).
But yeah greens, grrrr.![]()
