Those strike rates for wind were touted to win contracs for future projects. They are actually being paid far more by careful manipulation of their contracts.
The Rills Royce SMRs are promising £40 as well. We shall see.
I am not against wind power IF we could store the surplus.

The strike prices are what they are, you can speculate they were "touted" for something if that makes you feel better.

I remember someone who worked in the research dept at Leyland telling me that if the purchasing dept forgot to order some parts that were needed on the production line, management would send the most obnoxious junior down on a pretext to annoy the workers to the point where they all walked out. That's no way to run a company and can't possibly ever succeed.

That is what you get from a nationalised business.
Obviously there was bad management but when you had openly communist union leaders ruling the roost what do you expect? When Red Robbo finally got the boot he launched a ballot for support. 600 union members voted for him. 14000 against!
Mate worked in British Steel Port Talbot. The night shift would often deliberately break a coil so they would be sent home for the night - still getting paid of course.

Of course they want to make a profit. All companies do. But why is the word profit such a dirty word? Welsh Water are not for profit. Doesn't stop them being the most expensive water provider. Nor does it stop the executives earning nice big pay packets.

The company making a profit is not an issue. Its the hangers on doing nothing but getting thousands.

It's not a surprise Welsh water is the most expensive. The large areas of uninhabited areas and large areas of sparsely populated areas would make it costly.

It's like bus routes. Rural routes might make a loss, but its balanced by the town routes.

Same with insurance..... the logic is crazy.

Every driver will have an average of 3.4 accidents (figure is an example) so until you have had your quota you must be a higher risk.. If you have had 7 statistically you should be less likely than a driver who has 1 accident to have another one..

But the more you have the more they load you......even if its not your fault.

Because of the war in Ukraine. Because of windmills and solar. 30 years of neglecting nuclear power and Gordon Brown selling off Westinghouse. All the subsidies paid to people to have solar panels. The RHI being used to heat derelict buildings. Politicians who have no clue ramming green policies down out throats. The list is endless.
Oh and I forgot to add - batteries! To keep the grid running. Biggest joke of them all. Yes I know they are for smoothing - unless you think a few seconds worth of backup for the whole UK is worthwhile. But they aren't cheap and weren't needed before we had all these windfarms!

Be interesting to see the 'cradle to grave' financial cost and environmental impact of one of the big windmills, including decommissioning and correct disposal of the parts.
And even more interesting to see if they actually ever pay for themselves, in both respects.

To my knowledge, no wind turbine site has been reclaimed to original condition.
Just removing a concrete base is estimated to cost $2,500,000.

Seriously though the attitude of workers in some of these places is shocking.
When I worked in IT we went on various contracts to car plants.
In one Ford plant the security was really OTT.
When I asked why they had bars on the windows and computers locked up in theft proof cabinets I was told the kit would go walkies otherwise. I said the onsite security looked pretty good. Ahh but it's the staff who nick everything not the outsiders

I suppose the cost of installation must be pretty close to the cost of removal.

Coincidentally, I got talking to the father of my daughters best school friend recently when he dropped her off at our house. I've only said a few words before, but this time he was a bit more talkative. He came into the workshop and was gobsmacked, he said it was far better than his workshop at work.

Not quite true! EDF is (mostly) owned by the french government. France is currently importing as much as 3GW at times, from the UK - that is as much as 10% of the UK output. True that EDF is one of the BIG SIX energy suppliers retailers in the UK. Just a shame the the UK sold off its industry to other countries. They only bought those assets to make profits, didn’t they?

Think here, too, who owns and runs our water industry? Not much is British any more. Will EDF decommission t the nuclear sites when they have run them to their end of life, while taking the profits in the meantime?

Gordon Clown sold off Westinghouse.
Now they are looking at building a new reactor at Wylfa!
Sooner the better but far too late to save Anglesey aluminium.

I worked on the PTA line at Halewood in 1970, the stories I could tell you. Like blokes playing 3 card brag in the locker room after being paid and seeing a full unopened (cash in those days ) wage packet in the pot on one hand. He lost. Two prices for radios, one inside one outside. Sets of wheels and tyres over the fence on night shift. Body shells in workers garages, one bit at a time.
