Theres loads of those vans in scrapyards, have you thought about cutting a patch from another floor?
Also, you could make your patch in two half's, split along bottom of trough, and weld together.

I dont think i got the skills or finesse for second tip mate.
But the first method has possibilities for a galute like me haha. Got a piece from scrappy now tho, but half tempted to have another bash as you advised. Cheers
