yes and you own nothing if the company decides to sell up or close down you lose everything
as the company dosnt have to open the game up to make it free for those that have bought games at full price

drm was a way to stop copyright it wasnt used for that purpose it was for companys to go digital and make owners buy online and have no right to a resale value as you dont own the game/music, program
at what cost to the user buying games at full price all the time as no second hand market exists for the games /music, program

What about the images I keep on my nas and cloud storage?
They are infinitely more reliable and easier to access than a bit of plastic
I can write an 8gb image to usb in under a minute that can be installed or run on any other machine
Keep your dvds with your coal fire imo

what do you do when your cloud server goes down can be down for weeks before they sort the problem what would you do then ?
8gb image to usb is down to usb been better by os or by the latest tech within usb been upgraded you certainly couldnt write that size file on a 2.0 usb unles you bought the faster speed 2.0 and then you wouldnt get that speed
I have the fastest usb stick in 2.0 I also have the fastest via 3.0 samsung usb stick

Cloud is the backup of the backup backup.
Seeing how you asked, primary storage is a 1tb nvme in a usb c enclosure
At home I have 2 nas drives, one is mine and one is a friends, everything is copied local and remote, my friend does the same
That is backed up to the cloud as an extra backup
As for usb, I have sticks from 1gb to 1tb in usb 2,3,3.1 and use the best one for the job in hand, I also have a few nvme drives in various enclosures for usb and sata plus a huge selection of sd cards
Every single option is better than a cd or dvd, i have zero need to use any hardware that will not boot from usb or sd
I got a cd with something I bought recently, I had a small chuckle before trying out the cd slot on my new shredder

ive still got cds and dvds for the systems that wont except usb
oh yeah i still come across them when fixing them for others
I prefer usb for the live disks and also the repair discs so mines been upgraded to a multi boot usb stick most of the time all i have to carry is that stick
as ive said before windows can deactivate anything it so chooses or worse still report you to the owner

anyway 3 hard drives done not a problem
preloading of the 4tb to check its safe to use before full transfer of info not a problem
upgrade pc to 500gb lexar hard drive from 240gb done in no time
upgrade another with same done in no time
strip windows 10 laptop get hard drive out saves buying a lead and i have the pcs to connect too
no problem
then it wont see my hard drives so upgrade that software then acronis wont see my keyboard/ mouse cant use them im usb
rooler ball for one mouse the other is a laser light mouse both dont work i have another older type ps2 so could use that one
get another file im waiting for that to load up
im already 3hrs plus with just the windows 10 laptop and they think this is a good upgrade yeah right pain in the ....

I run and maintain my own cloud instance and an install of the aptly named ownCloud in that instance. It NEVER goes down, and if it did I have full management access from my phone.
Not if you are wanting to listen to Grace Potter in my little van it isn't. You either have a CD or you are singing to yourself.

just done it via acronis true image 2020 ver 25700 using an old ps2 keyboard hard to do really prefer mouse myself
i presume may work on the ps2 mouse as well which i have an adapter for it to usb
for those that want to try it
laptop hard drives copied via a main pc do work that way
now while i have the laptop in pieces i can try a windows 7 install to the laptop

Ive had an ipod in my car/van/pickup for about 10 years, its never had headphones plugged in. I'm looking to refresh it as the hard drive is playing up, can buy a board to fit a couple of SD cards instead

I have a very early iPod that has served me well but the battery needs replacing and I wouldn't like to have it in the van anyway, there is a small jack plug for audio in to the head unit.

I've used Connects2 boxes to plug an ipod into my van's headunits. You retain full control functions on the ipod and stereo, steering wheel remotes etc. The unit connects from the multipin connector on the bottom of the ipod into the Coneects2 box and from there into the back of the head unit, on the Transit it used the CD changer socket.
Also it's easy enough to replace the battery and or drive in an ipod, I've done both, the latter with the SD card adapter.

I have an ipod classic with a mini hard drive, they can be split open and a board fitted that accepts 2 sd cards instead
