What are you machining?

Had a job to do on a boat in Arbroath so wasn't going up to do the Cat today. Went round to the boat, asked the guy exactly what he was wanting. Not going to bother now he says
Ok so I think fine I will head up to the Cat but as I was walking back to the workshop I got apprehended by another fisherman, can you get our hauler plates off, they had been at it for hours and not getting any place. So eventually got them off as last time no coppaslip had been put on by them

So as it was 11am I thought I will wait until I have my dinner then head up to the Cat. I had been looking for ER40 lathe collet chucks but they were all quite expensive so I had a look in the shed and found some 4" dia steel, some kind of tool steel but not sure what.
So started Fusion and drew this up.

The to Manufactirer side of Fusion for the toolpath.

Then into the CNC with the steel and made this.

Collet and nut fit fine.

Not enough meat left to part off in the CNC so easier to just chuck in the Triumph using a bit of 25mm dia in the collet yu hold it.

So now I have an ER40 collet chuck for the lathe

Interesting to see the tolerance/concentricity it holds. You could have a job making a few of those

I had the steel to hand so was cheap enough for me to make for myself, if I hadn't then ...

Seems pretty good, chucked some stainless in the Triumph and clocked it, under 0.01mm runout. Put collet chuck on the stainless and clocked it, about the same runout.

Nice, how long did the cnc take to cut?
0.01mm combined chuck and collet runout is very good!

I like the chuck spacers idea, I need to drill and tap mine to add some.

Not sure how long, maybe 10mins for the actual cutting, bit longer to set the chuck up etc, had to pause half way through as someone else came in needing a wee job done and don't like running fresh code when not at the machine.
Probably an hour or so from drawing to finished part.

Clocked the faces, CNC side is nicer but not too bad in any case.

I found time to make aome headlight mount spacers for the bike. As I choose brass I thought it'd be a good example of how to get nice swarf - almost all of it curls and easy to clean up.

Nice! A well honed tool there. What was the doc, it looked very deep?

Its a well used ccgt060204 insert, 4mm doc, 8mm diamter off 15.6mm bar.
I prefer pcd inserts but the cutting edge length is a bit short for brass.

I tried to video it but it seems none of my cameras work in the workshop, but when I test in the house they do

Cheers for the suggestions, I don't have CNC and the lathe VFD was not on. I have consigned the gopro clone to the bin and bought a new one. The SLR is now working so I really don't know what the problem was!

Gratuitous horizontal machining picture using the Centec to put some .090" slots in my clock standoffs

Machined today a pair of steering relay housings for @badabec. These have to be bored out from 46 to 47mm to accept modern bearings but there's no easy way to hold them. There's a 48mm x 1.5 pitch thread in the end so I turned a thread in a piece of scrap and made it a close fit, then screwed the housing on to the thread and bored them out the 1mm required.
