Selecting the picture is an amazon thing.
On ebay its chosen via the drop-down lists.
Sometimes the pictures change according to what you choose from the list.

I suspect your issue is a Chinese (or non-English speaking) seller. Even if they have the item in the uk I expect the seller is based abroad and you are not actually talking to the same person that has/posts the item

I didn't select the picture though. The picture came up as I searched Google.
I had no indication there was any other item picture until I had paid.
I have totally had enough now of lies , bullying making rules and the law up and it seems futile now to even try.
I am thinking of taking a break whilst contemplating a longer break. The more I see, watch read or hear the more I think people let power go to their heads.

There is just no accountability and people hide behind keyboards. At least the local school head teacher had the guts to phone me to suggest my comment about our local person who visited the school might be better deleted.. it wasn't even a bad comment but she claimed the school group on Facebook (a primary school) was for the kids.
Even when I explained kids in her school should not be on Facebook she did not follow the logic.

Can such sales be held in escrow , how does that work ? Does it give the seller better protections ?

Sort of, after selling the last phone I had £150 in my eBay account

I wasn't planning on transferring to my bank account as I had some stuff to buy off eBay

When the buyer lodged the 'it hasn't arrived' case, eBay messaged me to say I couldn't withdraw the funds but I could still buy stuff with the funds on eBay which I did

Because I'd selected the eBay managed postal option, all the comms from them kept saying 'I was fully covered', obviously I was a little nervous that I'd end up losing the money but was keeping fingers crossed that was the case. They refunded the buyer and I got to keep my money

I don't see how you managed that, you can literally see the other picture previews on the listing when you open it, plus you shouldn't just buy the first suggested sponsored ad on Google when a quick 2 seconds searching ebay gives what you want and cheaper!

None of this appeared to apply to me until I finally figured out I had a set of woodworking chisels for sale. The listing had one bidder and I didn't expect it to sell for much anyway, so I cancelled the auction rather than end up using some age-verification delivery service at my expense. They may get binned unless I can find a way to sell them online without a lot of hassle.

Looking online, I'm not totally convinced that chisels are a "bladed product" but hey-ho this is a one-off sale and I'm not going to waste a lot of time.

Royal mail does tracked 24/48 with age verification and it's only £6.3 so easy.

Sell more than30 items or sales of over £1740 in a year and the marketplace needs to report you to hmrc.

NI number is needed for identification.
I presume that is to stop you selling 29 items on ebay and another 29 on ebid and so on..

Well I can honestly say all my items are my own as said from childhood and stuff I brought 10 years ago and longer.

It will be some random time after you reach one of the limits.
If you don't give them the ni number you'll have another random amount of time (seems to be 21-30 days) before they 'suspend*' your listings.

*they don't ban you. Or actually remove your listings. They just hide the listings from buyers** until you provide the ni number.

** this also seems to be random, a mate of mine got suspended weeks ago and has still made a couple of sales since then.
If I search his listings nothing comes up. I think the sales may be from items people had 'added to basket' before he was suspended?
