You need to be careful about the postage that they assign to certain items. You might find yourself having to fork out a lot extra if it 's seriously awry.

This was a big problem when I tired a few years ago to sell a collection of paperback books. The "books" section on ebay had a top limit for P&P that would barely cover a single book, no way their £2 allowance would cover the cost of posting a box full of books.
I could have listed as a general joblot but couldn't find a way to advertise a joblot of books so a lot of potential book buyers wouldn't see the advert.
In the end I didn't bother...

I've seen that when selling, I put a Villiers powered generator weighing 30kg on and ebay recommended the postage at £1.90

Today I contacted eBay Customer Services, a real English-speaking person, no less. In fact, they phone you

Three sales weren't showing any delivery confirmation, so no payment.
They were surprisingly helpful, sorted one immediately, but I was told that the system doesn't allow them to change manually delivery confirmation, despite there being positive feedback on all items.
The good news is - after 14 days, even without delivery notification from the carrier, you get your money.

Well this is a first... Buyer has just opened an item not received case a month later, tracking shows it in Glasgow for last month or so but know of another person who had the same tracking error for an amazon return however it had arrived just tracking never updated.

Either this person really hasn't received the item or they're trying to pull a fast one as bit odd you'd wait a month to open a case

Will give royal mail a phone tomorrow otherwise it's a lost item claim, think this is the first time in all the years of using royal mail have I had an issue!

I've recently sold a couple of mobile phones on eBay, just listed them and let eBay sort out the postage options

They went for more than I was expecting, they were reasonable phones but both had damaged screens

No fees charged to me as a seller and money was released fairly quickly too

I did list a 3rd phone, this one had minor screen damage but very hard to see it, winning bidder never paid and didn't respond to messages

Cancelled the sale, resisted and it sold again, this time the buyer did respond to messages and wanted a few days to get the money together and then went quiet

It's back on again, maybe 3rd time lucky, but more importantly, no seller fees again for this one

Ebay are taking the pee with this- sold on 12th delivered on 17th and funds still held by eBay for a further 2 days



I have nearly £400 pending all stuff posted some time ago.

That could get old quick, but I have hundreds of small parts like the above that need gone and ebay is really the only way to do it.

True, but the stuff I sell will get me more on there than anywhere else I can sell it. The buyer protection thing for private buyers is a bit oddly done but hey ho that's the way it is.

I'm not fussed that they make a profit from me, it's still worthwhile. What bugs me more is the degradation of the search function.

So if the courier delivers it, but doesnt update their systems to reflect this, not an uncommon sceanario, then basically, you dont get paid? Have i got that correct.

I sold it before the change so already have the money and ebay couldn't put a hold on it but now it's a case of money gets held till situ is sorted and unfortunately it seems sometimes royal mail says it's delivered but they didn't update and then buyer says never received and then you're out since ebay sides with them but thankfully I've started a lost parcel claim so hopefully shouldn't be screwed.

Watch out for the "promoted listing fees!" I didn't realise some of my listing's were updated to promoted so I went back and removed that option



Also, it says balance paid out 19th Feb, today but nothing yet. So they really do hold out as long as they possibly can!

The new "buyer protection fee" is not applied to the postage cost. As a seller you can price your item low and add a silly postage cost to minimise the buyer protection fee. However, that would likely end up with negative feedback from buyers who were too stupid to understand why the item was priced that way. My seller feedback for postage costs is currently 4.9 despite only charging actual postage costs and sometimes less than the actual cost!

That's almost going back to the early days of Ebay when they only put their % on the final sale price, sellers would price an item low, but charge higher postage to get round it and buyers understood why.
