So, couple of weeks ago I mixed beer with ebay and bought a bike front wheel to use. It looks the part, but I don’t think it will be man enough for the job. It only has a 17mm wheel spindle, which isn’t great.
Now I’m having thoughts of utilising a car wheel hub to make my own setup. Something similar to this old Jag hub, but more modern, with readily available bearings and parts. Disc brake and wheel bolt up easily enough. I can make a decent diameter spindle and the various spacers required.
Any suggestions? Maybe something off the back of a Transit?

Are you thinking of a single sided "fork"?
How about an escort front hub. Aftermarket aluminium hubs are easily available, and there are lots about so the bearings appear easily available. Seem to be plenty of old escort stuff about supporting historic rallying...

If you know the size of the wheel bearings in your current wheel, could they be swapped for ones with a larger ID but the same OD and width, allowing you to use a bigger diameter wheel spindle? How big do you think you'd need to go?

No, it will be sort of leading link style. The Escort hubs sound interesting, I shall Google.
They’re not a very big outside diameter, so I doubt there would be much I could do. The bike tyre on the bike wheel is only rated to 345kg max load as well, which might be somewhere near the final weight on the trike front end.
That would be a drum brake, and possibly rare or unobtainable.Reliant?

Slowly getting the tubes fettled to receive the steering head. There's a whole load of careful marking and cutting and grinding involved, just to get the fit right. A couple of hours just to nearly get the two top tubes nearly ready for fitting.
I dread to think how many hours goes into one of them tube frame cars we see occasionally.
And when I got to this stage I realised the bottom yoke is going to have to be an odd shape to allow any steering, without hitting frame tubes.....

More amps needed?I bit the bullet and started welding things permanently. My welding feels a bit suspect, haven't done much for a while. There's plenty of steelwork so that should make up for it.

I lifted the frame off today, and it just fitted, with valve covers removed and frame cranked over a bit. I could do with twice the floor space, and an overhead crane. My interferometry paid off.
Then I set to, doing a bunch of welding to get it all sorted.
I'm rebuilding my welding technique and skill, steering head will be next.

,Dam i wish hadent seen this thread lol, its most excellent but the trouble is i have a 350 chevy sitting in a camper van that was going to scrapped, but its only done 31,000 miles and been run on LPG from new, now im thinking i should build a quad bike around it

I was twitching with the idea of cutting the Scim chassis in two, to yeild two trikes - a conventional one and a reverse one.
Then I gave myself a stiff talking-to because even though the Scims aren't worth much and have slipped through the Classic Scene cracks for years, they are slowly becoming more appreciated for they were and interest (and prices) is rising. Apart from that it's not a wreck. If it had been a rolled shell but still a sound chassis I'd have done it by now.
Relatedly; In a Luton breaker's I found one that had done a multiple roll and somersault along the embankment at the western end of the Airport road. Every single panel was like crunchy wheatos, but the driver walked out of it unscathed. That one would have been a perfect candidated for the plasma cutter.
