Difficult to tell the difference between metric, BSW & UNC threads from a standalone photo.
There is nothing to take a reference from.

I wasn't aware of this, I assumed the thread could easily be identified by a forum member with more knowledge and experience of threads.
I will still need to confirm the thread type, as I'll also need Nuts but thanks for your suggestion and the link.You get a fair chunk of coarse thread with these for not a lot of money.

I've read the thread but have no idea what thread the OP needs... What's the application, what tensile strength is required?
No tensile strength or application mentioned.
I just thought someone would know the type of thread that is used on a Coil spring compressor.
Due to such a threads ability to compress coil springs, its robustness and that I've had my coil spring compressor for over 30 years, I believe a thread of such a type would meet my needs.
Once I've identified the thread type, then I can source a threaded rod with said thread and the appropriate nuts.
The photo below is an image I found online, of the thread of a coil spring compressor which is identical to the thread I'm attempting to identify

There is, mine; as I believe if I was to identify the thread used on my coil spring compressor; and buy a threaded rod with the same thread then it will suit my needs.
I never said there was anything special about it, I just wanted to know the thread type so I know what to look for online or what to ask for.
Within my 2nd post to this "thread," I said, it's possibly UNC Thread.

It isn't that unusual, even the rubbish store called Bunnings sells threaded rod in Metric or BSW but not UNC/UNF.
My nearest Bunnings is Australia, a touch too far and I imagine postage would be somewhat expensive.

I was just commenting because of how weird it is. Can't buy many UNF bolts or any threaded rod but can buy BSW rod
I would never recommend buying stuff there, I don't even trust a bolt from there.
You possibly need to research and understand a little more about diameter, thread type and most importantly material material.
I could identify your spring compressor thread with a thread gauge, and make you one of the same thread type, from say EN1a and if you were holding up a light bulb, it would be fine. Using it to compress springs and you will probably require a trip to hospital.
Hence peoples questions.
Most thread types could likely be used for most applications, but lots of combinations will be far from ideal.
Standard triangular threads are pretty inefficient, and are likely to wear out faster under load.
Square/trapezoidal/ACME are more efficient, and are likely to wear out slower under load.
The key thing is material type.
Generic threaded rod you buy is likely to be grade 5. Medium carbon steel, with not that much strength.
Higher grade/strength rod is available, but you'll pay a premium for it.
As for your apparent shock at how much a meter length of more specialist rod is compared to complete tools using said rod.
If you go to a threaded bar manufacturer wanting several thousand short lengths of threaded bar that is good enough to run through a corresponding nut with fairly loose tolerances, said bits of bar are going to be relatively cheap.
If you go to a threaded bar manufacturer wanting a long length to a good standard, it's going to be relatively expensive, and that's before you consider for anything more generic, it's going to be a low volume part. It also needs more packing/handling, as sub foot long bits of bar can be easily thrown in a box, whereas meter long bar needs more careful handling.
Without knowing the actual application, nobody can give you any kind of definitive answer.

This " thread" is becoming to complicated and over thought.
All I wanted was the type of thread that is used in a Coil Spring Compressor, which from what I've seen, they all use the same thread regardless of make/brand, which is also the same type of thread used on Bearing Pullers, to be identified.
I eventually uploaded a photo of a Coil Spring Compressor, that's identical to mine, which has the thread type I'm trying to identify.
Once I know the thread type, then I can find a threaded rod or bolt with that thread.
I could purchase a normal threaded rod or my chosen diameter and use that, which I know will be more than suitable for its intended use, although there must be a reason why Coil Spring Compressors and Bearing Pullers both use the same type of thread.
Also, I would assume, that any manufacturer of threaded rod or bolts with the type of thread used for a Coil Spring Compressor or Bearing Puller would form it into a material of the correct tensile strength.

Your question is far too vague and broad to give a precise

The analogy of a car doesn't really work in this case, as of
course we can identify a vehicle from a photo. But, not so easy

Yeah, I know that now but when I first posted the question, I assumed just as I'm able to recognise the socket or spanner size of a bolt by sight, I assumed someone could recognised the thread from its described use or by the photos; as in, what's that thing called which lights the room when I press this switch.
I know, that the type of thread which tends to be used in Vices and Scissor Jacks is a Trapezoidal Thread, which in the UK is often referred to as a Lead thread and ACME Thread in the USA, so should such a question arises on the forum in the future, without knowing the variables, I can share such knowledge.
However, my request not to overthink my question, wasn't being disrespectful to all the replies received so far; I was just trying to emphasise that my question doesn't require such an in-depth and technical response, hence my comparison with the identification of a car, as that's the simplistic response I was looking for.
Such as, it's a UNF, UNC or BSW
