What do you mean ?Welcome to making stuff at scale. Trapezoidal is gonna be your cheapest option I think, acme is hard to find these days without ordering it.
I only use the term ACME as that's how it appears to be described online.acme is hard to find these days without ordering it.
Hi demented. To obtain information about the threaded bars you have shown why not take an example to an engineering company and ask them to make measurements using a thread gauge. This should confirm all the details you need to source the material. However, the following photos are very similar, in fact near identical to my old coil spring compressor, which when bought 30 odd years ago, wasn't considered cheap and isn't made in China.
It's the thread depicted in the photos which I'm trying to identify and source; as if a thread of this type is capable of compressing a coil springs and as my spring compressor is still functional after all these years and used many times by myself and by everyone who knows I've got one, then a threaded rod of this type will be more than capable for what I intend to use it for, although the thread in the photos doesn't look like the ACME type threads in the Scissor Jacks or Vices, hence my question on the forum.

Which is why we get posts of "there's no engineering anymore", or "there's a housing estate/shopping centre where XYZ Engineering once was" . . . because no-one considers the real value of a real bit of engineering, something well made, that will last when doing the job is is supposed to . . . but instead compares it to something that barely does the job it is supposed to, the one time it is used, churned out as cheap as possible in their thousands (the scale mentioned by Bob) for 2p.An ACME Thread at £67 per metre is expensive, when Scissor Jacks with 35cm of ACME Thread can be had for £10 or there abouts.
Yeah, if need be that's what I'll do but I thought someone on the forum may have known.Hi demented. 67 quid for a metre of decently made, of known standard, from proper material, that will take the loading it is supposed to, is cheap.
I don't think it's a normal thread, it look so different, kind of more robust.
Yeah, I did mention in one of my replies, that I think it maybe a UNC thread.Just looks like a normal coarse thread to me.
Are you suggesting I buy a set of thread gauges, rather than ask on the forum ?A set of thread gauges is s cheap investment. They can last a life-time if looked after and/or not lost

I'll bear that in mind.In a word - yes.
