The price of paints has taken a steady increase in price. I use arcrite paints as had good results with the paints and a helpful company. Ordered one litter of semi gloss chassis black and nearly fainted.

Is this the sort of collet you need for the high speed head?

Its about 110mm long and 16mm diameter. The thread isn't quite 1.25mm and isn't 22tpi either, 1.2mm perhaps, there's a keyseat on the back side too. I'll go back outside with some paper and measure it all properly later.

If it isn't it's very close. Let me find some dims.

EDIT the high-speed head uses collets that are 18mm diameter and 80mm long with a 14mm internal thread. Are your ones fully hardened? It's possible I could adapt them if you have a full set.

Yes they do seem to be fully hard, but I need them for my D bit grinder anyway so you can't have them, I was only offering dimensions. Sorry, I should have been more clear

Ah, no problem. If they provided a solution I could have bought a set for myself.

I have a lead on an incomplete set but they are a few quid and I am worried about not being able to make the rest up. If that were the case I would be better off making an adapter for something like 4c.

I do have some 5c collets of that type but no, the high-speed head uses 18mm shank collets with 14mm x 1.5pitch internal threads for the drawbar. The main spindle uses 23mm shank draw-tube collets with a 22mm x 1.5pitch external thread. Both are unique to the machine unfortunately.

Got 9 bits ready for primer. A lot more work than it looks like some of these bits had up to 1/4" of filler with big chunks out of it. I had to remove the whole lot and re-do the filler. This is about half of the bits I have here with me so a couple more days yet until theyare all ready to paint.



I also put the slotting head on the surface grinder and ground out the gouges from the ways. It was thankfully only a few thou deep. The inside angled ways I will have to hand-scrape I just didn't fancy scraping ways this small when the grinder could make them flat and co-planar in a fraction of the time.

Got 14 bits in primer. Needs a couple of touch-ups and a flat-down with scotchbrite which I will do this evening then I will probably put the top coat on tomorrow. It's not a first-class job by any means but I'm satisfied with it. It's just a machine, after all.

Yeah I got no choice. The guy I was hoping would paint it is decked out with work until after the Christmas break. Once I go back to work I woun't have the time to dedicate to it but I will be able to squeeze in the odd jobs of rebuilding the different parts so long as the painting is done. A matter of needs must.

It's cooking away right now. I set up a table covered in polythylene out in the alleyway to paint the milling table and the rest I put on my wheeled trolley one at a time and just shoved into the doorway then sprayed towards outside. I used scrap cardboard to set them on so I could rotate each part around to get it all painted. It's a shame the weather isn't better or I would have taken them all outside in the alley and left them there to cure.

Must be very satisfying getting to the stage you're at Pete , very impressive . As long as you are happy that's all that matters . Great job ,looking forward to seeing the finished product

Parts are painted. No runs as of yet and the finish is somewhat less than 1st class but I'm satisfied with it.
