Found the issue with the compressor motor.
The original 3 or 5 hp motor had been replaced with a 10 hp one.
This would explain why it always tripped the guy's breakers on starting it up.
It's right on the limit of what my phase convertor will start, so if I test the windings it may be good to use as is.

Not seen one of them for donkey’s years! I did have one at one point, but no idea what happened to it.
But the clamps hold the leaves together so this device couldn't work.
Fired this up last night.
Took quite a few pulls to get going, but idled away we'll once running.
Pretty damned loud though!
My folks place has an Ash Tree that looks to have the ash die-back disease. It's in the hedge alongside the road.... so the ole man got a letter from the counvil telling him to deal with it - or they would...& send him the bill.
So if the chainsaw gets this one task done (plus the wood for my daughters log burner) it'll owe us nothing.
I don't know a great deal about chainsaws (have operated one quite a few times sporadically over the years) - but while it's no Stihl it looks pretty good given its £80 for a 20" saw with a 58cc engine. Like I say - it's really just this job & cut up some Firewood - so a long service life etc wasn't part of the purchasing decision. (I chose the Vevor one simply as so far to be fair I've had nothing truly ropey from the brand edp given the prices)
I'm going to run it in gently to try and get best starting and running out of it & give it a fair chance - & fingers crossed it'll manage what we need it to do.
I'll need to lop branches (it's thankfully not a very big tree) as the only drop zone is the roadside verge (other trees preventing dropping it into the field).... so probably going to put a small scaffold up for stable platform, and lop off manageable size cuts that can be quickly moved off into the nearby gateway (with some traffic watch etc). Once it's down to hedgetop level - plan is to just leave it well alone at that point.

The clamps have to allow a certain amount of movement else the spring becomes a solid bar.
The wedges in the clamp don't open the gap between the spring leafs much, just sufficient for the grease to be pumped in.
(and the grease to squirt out
it is a messy job! )

IME That works well on road cars but going through our car wash washes the chain oil away...

If you grease them, you are supposed to wrap them to stop the dirt getting in. How much good it does I don't know.

If on road I would agree, Denso Tape or Gaiters.
But with the off road I find it better to not wrap them so the muck is not trapped and can be washed off.

When I had to apply it to the outside of lead armoured cable joints, many moons ago,
(long before disposable gloves in the workplace)
it used to cover me in muck as well.
When you're doing a cable joint trackside, with a two mile walk to the access point,
(so no hand washing facilities)
it can lend a certain flavour to your sandwiches!

A proper bun!
Breakfast was a very nice and somewhat overfilled, saussage and bacon roll.
I also got a pasty for lunch but no pic of that as she gave me the squashed, saggy one, somewhat disapointing when it cost £4.50!
