I liked the Gossen meters and you have reminded me that I have a mint Lunasix, mint except that the needle has fallen off its pivot. I should open it up and find out what as happened, it is worthless now so I can't do much harm.

I’ve just had another look at it as I can’t quite get over the size of it, main web is 1.75” thick, 14” Tommy bar, thread is 1” OD!

It takes a long time, but they seem to be prone to the odd fault here and there.
I have two that were dirt cheap and almost unused, with battery terminals knackered. Quick replacement and good to go.
It's the skin-tight battery compartment that has ham-fisted owners jamming the battery in and wrecking the connectors. These are the PP3 powered ones.
The most recent one also had tarnish on the three pins / hollow pins that connect the two sides of the clamshell. Just age, nothing else.

Yours might have been dropped, but even so, they seem fairly resistant to post-drop faultiness going by what I read of others' reports.
