A fresh MOT with no advisories for my Hilux Surf, not bad considering it's almost 27 years old

It even easily passed the smoke test on the first attempt, no need for multiple averaged attempts.

If my 32 yr old Lancia with over 200,000 on the clock can do it, I see nothing impressive here . . .

In fact, if anything came up, I'd be pretty annoyed with the maintenance mechanic . . . me

Today I acquired a bed load of box section and some solid 10mm oak boards. 2mm thick box , so more than adequate for what I have in mind for it.

Totally opposite for me I found it a lovely job. The first couple took some time but after that I was wacking the strips in with a rubber mallet.

Pvc would have been much better. I was replacing knackered units in wood frames. They were bonded in with some sort of bituminous putty that was rock hard and had to be chiseled off the frame

Is the 1/4 round wick burner there?

The wick's flat, about 10mm, and winds up and down smoothly.

Check all parts are stamped or marked up with BR stamps.

If not, it is a Bitsa lantern. Not an issue, but means it was rebuilt, built from spares.

Look for dates as well. No dates is not an issue, but a date of pre 1935 is very good. On any part.
I know BR came in after that date. But mant lanterns were embossed with BR as they had been taken up from stores.

For less than the price of the cable itself
It will see some major upgrades....

But this thing is bigger than what it looks

Are you planning to mig weld the scrap bed box section? Stuff like that gets chucked out at work all the time (desks, etc) and I've often wondered if it could be useful. What are you making?

My dad bought one of those brand new in the '80's, and I later inherited it. I can't remember what became of it but it was reliable enough.

Cut off the stump for neighbour which is a nice height for splitting on or perhaps as a table base. Going to char it and seal with wax and see how long it survives.
The dark triangle of rot, smelled aweful when cutting, like burning vomit !

Plenty more logs and I may take some more to carve or, split and burn.

I see amazon sellers are selling 30L boxes of birch wood for £20-40 each and people are buying them

A friend of mine who unfortunately passed away too soon
Had 3 CEA welders
He ran his business around those 3 welders.
I unfortunately didn't have money at the time to buy something from his shop ,so I bought a similar one of those.
It's more for this reason than for necessity but I'll of course use it after a little restomod project

Beyond my capabilities of bending,helixing,planned on meeting my bending man by Worcester south jn of m5 at 8.30 yesterday morning,got there 10 to 8,waited until 9.30,no sign head for home,he phones to say he’ll be there at 12.30,didn’t you get my messages last night! he eventually arrived at 3.40 ,m5 closed,accident,then on the way home a front tyre exploded,an expensive time wasting day,but I did find a ratchet winder on the verge,and rememberino people probably hurt took the sting off it.
