Got a bit carried away with tool fever when in the farm store this afternoon.
A fairly ordinary fencing tool... not too expensive, about €17
They seem quite well made and have a good heft to them. Time will tell whether the steel is decent or just recycled tin cans.

Then, just to round it off I thought a nice little set of wire cutters would go nicely.... €40. I nearly didn't.

Paranoia about knackered worm drive gearbox set in about my newly aquired, 38yo Sealey SM5 after a warning - so decided to take a look before even cleaning it and any tinkering.
Removed the cover, and carefully eased off the (Cork!) Gasket to reveal as pic.
Not removed the old oil yet, but initial impression us that the worn drive and saw drive gear are OK.
(I doubt the gear hasn't been seen since the first time the cover was fitted - but at least it seems to have retained its SAE90).
I have some EP85-90 gearbox oil here somewhere - am I right in thinking that's fine to use?

I have some EP85-90 gearbox oil here somewhere - am I right in thinking that's fine to use?

I have 90-grade gear oil (not 85-90 or something else) in the wheel drives and axles on the Unimog - and that's exactly what it has to be in there!

Many long-distance Mogs have broken down because it can be used up throu the vent, which is not entirely cheap.

It's this stuff with its very own smell, different from normal gear oil.

If that's what's required, then that's what I put in ... although it's less likely that you'll break down with your machine 5,000km from home ...

I would caution against.
You mention "EP" which stands for "Extreme Pressure" and many times that lube has anti-weld additives in it that will destroy light metal (brass in your case).
