I definitely, possibly, maybe, almost sure, or maybe not, think that they might be cobblers pliers, or not.

I’m confused, they are quite long jawed, and they’re not smooth inside. Usually they’re smooth inside to not mark the leather. Those ones would leave crimp marks.

Unless they are for crimping the leather on the cantle?

Come on, I’m running out of ideas here!

Perhaps used by an upholster for stretching webbing strapping across chair & sofa seats and also for stretching leather or material over things like furniture so it can be tacked to to the frame then the marked bit is cut off ? The wide jaws take me to that conclusion .

I've got a pair of those pliers, they were in a box of stuff that was all upholstery related. I think DAPPH has got the use figured out.

I use a reversing ring on the camera then put a standard lens on the camera back to front .. I'm a cheapskate bar none ….think it cost me less than £5 on line 10 yrs ago . Think I can take the eye or point of a needle without bother .

All I really need to do is to be able to remember how to get the pictures into a post

Even got the boss to give me a hand loading them in the van. (He simply smiled, rolled his eyes, and asked me if I’ve ever considered being normal ). 4’x2’6”, think they’re ex-telecoms from a rooftop aerial installation, all fibreglass to avoid rusting or conduction issues, and held together by a useful quantity of M8x30 s/sbolts. Stripped down, the sides and feet will be stored in the MCI corner, (Might Come In...) and the grillage looks perfect for cutting into shelves for the latest addition to the greenhouse:




Got fed up of the assorted collection of Heath Robinson benches in there and finally made a dedicated bench a couple of weeks ago. Want another similar one down the right hand side, then all I need are some large square boxes for the toms and the beans. Found some 66 litre stackable “Euro Containers” at Solent Plastics for a reasonably tempting £7.95 each, but still hoping to “acquire” some f.o.c .

Off up to Aberdeen on Monday/Tuesday so doubtless once again I’ll be lusting after Stewart’s of Tayside’s polytunnels alongside the A9 above Perth...

An original travelling steady for my empire lathe. Happy days. Fits a treat. It will now be stripped..painted and sorted.

Aye. First car boot I went to last year I picked this up from the first stall I stopped at. In it's original box too
Second stall cleaned me out. About 40kg of reamers drill bits taps and dies.
Ordered the mag base last week to give it a new lease of life.

I couldn't source the staging I wanted for my greenhouse so ended up buying five two shelf hostess trolleys with one pair of lockable wheels at one end off eBay shipped from China .. supposed to be stainless steel but they do rust if something is stood on them for weeks & weeks without it being moved and the trolley cleaned off astey are usually getting wet several times a day .
That was six years ago and they are still going strong .

My 13 yr old daughter (at the time ) helped me lay some nice smooth 500 x 500 x 35 mm thick slabs on top of the rough concrete floor. She soon picked up the idea to a six foot spirit level and the 15 mm incline to one corner where she'd bust the concrete out to put a drain in for me , it's now like an operating theatre .
The best thing about the trolley's is that they can be moved about with ease and taken out of the glass house and almost have the plants wheeled to their final location . At £50 a pop inc. delivery they worked out about £12 cheaper than a normal fixed galv glasshouse staging . One of my better buys I can tell you , as I can quickly & easily empty the glass house to wash & sterilize it each spring and at the onset of winter .


re Growing containers ..
B&Q do a nice bright orange plastic buckets for 99p , they are OK to grow toms , cucs , capsicums , egg plants & ginger etc in so long as you put four equal space 10 mm dia drain holes 12 mm up from the floor . I used mine for almost four years till I was able to pick up 25 end of season heavy duty 30 (?) litre tubs from /Range and Better Bargains or B&M etc . for five or six pounds each during those four years .

I can source the right staging from Two West’s and Elliot at Chesterfield, but I’ll be hanged if I’m paying phone number prices!

Their aluminium staging looks gorgeous and would last for ever, but I can live with £25’s worth of tantalised timber from B&Q, a box of screws, and a couple of hours work. Next purchase will be some automatic openers for the roof lights, (went in at 10 o’clock this morning and it was 46 degrees ), and need to look into rainwater harvesting and an irrigation system.
