Must say, I'm not averse to buying/using cheap tools, but quality tools are generally much nicer to use.

This evening

So this evening I've worked on the 126 ,while dismantling the interiors I've found that plate under the rear seat .
It literally says :
"When I grow up, I'd like to be a Ferrari"

Despite it doesn't look so great this little maluch (yes it's made in Poland,it's made by FSM for Polsky FIAT) can be saved, structurally is good shape , rusty parts aren't structural .
I've already proceeded to remove seats and moquette, tomorrow I'll dismantle the electrical and instrumentation

A bit of gaffer tape, some break cleaner, a box of rattle cans, a bit time and muscle and it's better than new don't loose your mojo on the way!

From Thursday's tool rescue.

I have never held such clamps in my hands before, they are so uncommon in our country.

Until now I only knew them from illustrations in British books on turning and milling or occasionally here in the forum.

Why now an old railroad man in southwest Germany had a selection of them and why those in more special design are paired numbered is beyond me.

The clamps are well made and once I have them sorted into my mental toolbox as available, I look forward to working with them - I am curious.

Well, yesterday, and it ain't arrived yet.
Piddling around with the recently-acquired D3200 made me realise I wanted a FF Nikon, so this will do.
There's a load of really good, low-use kit out there that's going for norra lorra dough.
I shall resist the lure of Nikon AF lenses for a while, as I really only bought these for my older pre-AI and AI glass.

Today I acquired...the source of the annoying clicking coming from my Volvo.

Took the tension off the aux belt...all pulleys rotated ok.

Decided to remove the belt so I could run the engine without the belt...at which point the source of the noise became quite apparent!

No idea what caused this...it looks like an object must have got into the belt!

Will need a new belt...on Volvo engines I think the aux belt runs next to the cam belt....if the aux belt snaps it can pull the cam belt off too.

On sifting through the Thursday-Treasure, I discovered pretty sure signs that the clamps and other things have to do with training and examinations in a metal profession - what the "bequeather" once had to do with it, I don't know, of course ...

... Let's see if I can find out something more from the granddaughter ...

I think that those pieces of the clamps that are not clearly marked were practice pieces for the apprentices, whereas the specimens marked with four-digit numbers are probably examination pieces - in a company or an authority with a large number of apprentices over many years.

Apparently, at some point in their training, the kids were given a commercially made-looking box like this with their number on it to keep whatever - the contents of how it got to me was certainly different in the past.

That thin vee block type thing looks pretty handy, I agree the notch part is probably just an apprentice test piece. Are they hardened and ground?
