Got myself a proper score today, possibly the best skip find I will ever have!.

One old and dirty (but absolutely perfect otherwise) Snap-on top box


One mid box? that fits under the top box


Best part is it is full of stuff mostly sockets and spanners a lot of it is snap-on and the rest is a hodge podge of britool, kamasa and draper.


There is one particularly strange socket in there, big (didn't have time to measure but probably around 2") that reduces down a 1/2" drive. For the size of it I would have expected at least 3/4"??


When I parked up at work after lunch I also noticed a rather satisfying mileage

Membership of a working men's club. Its unusual in being in the middle of nowhere and run completely by volunteers. It only sells decent ale and is next to a river, ideal as a walking destination over the moors.

From home it's about 8 miles, or 9 going the extra scenic route, so a 3 hour walk, so you burn off the calories before you put them back on, all part of the beer diet

These vans are notorious for injectors seizing in the head!

Blown turbos and Gearbox problems are all to common.

And whoever thought putting the brake bleed nipples in the middle of the brake caliper needs shooting!

Plus the calipers seize on the pins. Break disc at the rear contains the bearing's.
Heaters matrix leak.
Plus the central locking goes wonky.

At that price if it's got an MOT, it's verging on disposable, if you get a year out of it minimum.

My eldest had a 2nd hand one with pretty high mileage for a fair few years.
It had a huge egg shaped dent in the roof, they removed the strapped down cement mixer from the roof while he was viewing
He moved it on for a small van and got the same money back

I have a Renault Trafic 05 sitting at 180,000 and every problem listed here so far has not happened.. I have a fully rebuilt 1.9 engine and turbo which i built last year and truth be known i don't think i will need it any time soon..Problems arise with "built to budget" vans from them going into fleet service and getting hammered into submission, i change the oils and filter every 3000 and swap out anything that shows signs of being worn and it pays dividends. My mate has a Vivaro with 225,000 on it and still going strong.
