Get a slightly older copy and they're not too expensive - e.g. there's a 25th edition on ebay for £38 at the moment. Machinery doesn't change that much that a 5 or even 20 year old edition isn't useful. Or get the Machinery & Metal Trades Handbook, which has most (but not all) of the metric stuff in the Machinery's Handbook without all the american nonsense.

Don’t fall for the Machinery’s Handbook Companion for a lot cheaper. I bought one off a guy who glossed over the companion bit Luckily he did returns.

Ditto. I think the newest is online? Maybe? Someone here will have a pdf I’m sure but hard copy is often best.

I have seen them on eBay for reasonable money. Not sure what’s been added over the years, the basics remain the same.

I don’t know why but it’s what I think of! Probably why I hate the word so much.

Each to their own however. I’m not sure as an adult how you’d describe your ‘significant other’ any other way to be fair. Boyfriend does sound a bit teenager ish.
