It's a bit of a mine field with code readers if they'll work with different software's, tbh my primary use is with Customers Motorcycles and I got the OBDLINK LX on recommendation in the trade and I use it with Tune ECU & MotoScan.Torques done 'something' as it will now start, but wont help with the service light or abs or airbag light... Dash command doesnt seem to work at all....
I down loaded Torque to have a play with my Pug 407 again it was recommended as I don't have much experience with Cars and ODB.
What Car are you playing with and what reader out of interest ?
I also use a decent adapter lead when plugging into to the BMW 10 pin Diag port, Used cheap and they've let me down.

Its an 04 diesel Corsa van. Nice little van, but needs an MOT so hoping it will tell me what it thinks is wrong with it rather than having to physically find a fault. (If there is one...)
- maybe consider getting someone to do them under supervision. The last thing you want to do is burst stitches or something.
