Today [well last night] I got news that my Brother has had another big stroke and is in a stroke unit in St John's Hospital, Livingstone. Fearing the worst this time round - but I've been wrong before.

Really sorry to hear that John, it has not been a good day: I lost a friend to pancreatic cancer today ( though she lasted 6 years more than she was given as a life expectancy) and my dad phoned 2 hours ago to say he had just had his best friends wife on to say he passed away today.

Everything crossed your brother pulls through.

@mpats I fear it might be the finish of him, he had a major one in his brain stem about 11 years ago and made a remarkable recovery [well, relatively], but there's a suspicion he/s been having ITAs for a while as he's been falling in the house a lot but refusing to let my S-I-S summon help, or when she did, refusing to go to hospital....

Oh dear, sorry to hear that mate, sometimes it's difficult to accept help, but from the outside looking in it's quite frustrating.

Korean stuff seems to be pretty good at the moment....it's like the Japanese stuff of the 1990s (or German stuff of the 1980s) I reckon...good engineering without the crazy prices.

I think these are just bought in from China, these exact same units have more names on the side than a war memorial.

I've got one here and it hasn't even got a name on it.

They all have Yanmar L10 knock off engines and are around 5 kW, infuriatingly just below the power output to really burn a 3.2mm 6013 properly, mine struggles on a 3.2mm 7018.

The starter motors and solenoids are especially cheap and nasty, but on the other hand you can order the parts straight from China off eBay for peanuts.

Every time I start it I cross my fingers that it won't break down again.

Today I acquired four new tyres for my boat trailer, and a chance to play with my tyre machine.

The couriers managed to knock off the leccy box on the motor and rip out all the wires so I had to acqured the knowledge to wire in the start windings/capacitor, centrifugal switch and the run windings/capacitor. Always wondered why there were six wires hanging out of a single phase motor

Ordered a new welding mask for TIG welding so at least i should be able to see the puddle !
Did not want to spend a lot on it so i settled for a GYS True Color XXL

Should be good enough for what i plan on doing as a hobby.
