If only someone was to invent carbon storage that releases oxygen.

It would require more energy than you'd get burning the carbon in the first place so without a big breakthrough in renewable power (Say, a fusion reactor ), it's not gonna happen.

It's like splitting water into hydrogen to use as fuel, you'll put more energy into the water than you'll get out of the hydrogen so it's only worthwhile if you have a clean, cheap source of electricity.

So, HMG still going for nuclear fusion and today short listed just 5 sites for the project;

Ardeer, North Ayrshire
Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire
Moorside, Cumbria
Ratcliffe-on-Soar, Nottinghamshire
Severn Edge, Gloucestershire.

I'd bet a few quid on Ratcliffe.

Somehow, I can’t see it being in Scotland.

The obvious place to put a Nuclear power station is in London, they could run a district heating system from the waste heat and much of the demand is there due to the big servers needing to be close to the City, so few transmission losses. They never do build one anywhere close to London though, I wonder why?

There used to be a small one, in Greenwich.

Nuclear power is so much cheaper than renewables and more reliable.
The biggest problem in the West are the crazy interest rates allocated to construction costs. Often as high as 10% when in reality they are less than 2%. This drives the estimated costs of the electricity far higher than they should be.

RR have been making reactors for our submarines for over 50 years. They have not been perfect but none have gone seriously wrong. This sounds like a better approach than the various alternatives depending on Russian gas, French reactors etc, etc. I'm sure that one of the old Magnox sites in N.Wales may well get one .
