I got this along with a job lot of goodies a while ago.
The way oil is nice but as you say tends to ring off. I will have a look at the chainsaw chain oil.Looks like these taylor chucks are like buses!
Back to the restoration, I use chainsaw chain oil on my chucks. The anti-fling additive helps stop it flying off the chuck when you start the lathe. I apply it with a brush & on the outside I remove the excess with a cloth.

I will go get some today. It's certainly very 'clingy'![]()
Carrying on from the 8.5 three jaw I am now doing the four jaw. In great condition. It's been degreased and cleaned. Tomorrow I hopefully should have it built.
Indeed mate it is.It's very satisfying, isn't it.![]()
And the scroll form is twice as strongIt is in effect conical. The scroll is cone shaped and the jaws are drawn into the chuck, as they tighten, providing a much higher gripping force than with a conventional flat scroll.
I like a machine (70ton of them) but im getting the feeling you're a bit unwellIndeed mate it is.
It did cross my mind on the three jaw. May well do when it's up and running. They look nice Spencer.
I wouldn't be able to help myself - I would HAVE to pull the jaws and re-face the flats and re-punch the numbers![]()
