Buy the blooming gasket from Stewarts and don't risk blowing up a bit of history
I used to go to their shop in Birmingham in the 70's, looks like they've moved, but still going and only 10 minutes away from me
I remember them as a copper sandwich. Thin copper either side with something else between and swaged over round the openings but it’s a long time since I had one apart.
Tappy tappy

On a brighter note, the hole ripping out isn’t a problem as theres very little casting there (top left)
Striped the oil pump, there’s pitting from rust, other than that looks to be good.

Yes, see http://www.srmclassicbikes.com/devimeadWas it Devimead who used to do a needle roller bearing conversion for BSA's? Eliminated that timing side bush and the centrifuge problem with the oil by adding an end feed to the crank. Seemed like a good idea, but I didn't know about it until after I'd blown up a girlfriends MkII Spitfire on the M69!
It's a piece of copperSo I’d rather keep the 60quid to spend on something else.
I know white metal bearings are prefered, but i think like the BSA A7/A10 twins, which have a roller on the drive side of the crank and a white metal bush on the other,
Maybe on the ZA7, but all later ones ones had a steel bush with bronze sleeve.
