Glued a couple 2 off 6x25 bar to the tool I made, glad I did. I needed a thick glove and a 2’ breaker bar to get that nut loose.



The front bearing support plate does not want part from the hilomar sealant, the side plate was well held and took some freeing. Good job as everyone of the slotted screws were loose.

Y/N waiting on machine shop confirmation of sizes. I’m not stripping the box now, the front bearing plates are not easy to remove without breaking them, cheap enough but another expense when it doesnt need attention. Problem is I still want to blend the joint between it and the engine case, only ali never the less dont want it in the box, so I’ve made up some blanks to keep the mess out. Got the layrub bush parts in, machined up the mould, just need to machine the centres and heat treat them.

Not much happening at the moment; still awaiting on the machine shop with the engine.

I did however find a brand new kickstart quadrant on ebay for £120. With ‘make an offer’ so Learning from my last dealing with Indian ebay sellers I put in a stupidly low offer... 20mins later it was accepted.
£63 delivered

Picked up the engine yesterday. A bit of blending where the engine/gearbox mate.




Then weld the cam cover holes up and machine in the correct place

I think that double engine bike was built by Martin Bratby, the carburettor rebuild guy, he does ride it!

Finished milling the re-centred cam cover bolt holes, twice ...I had to butter the middle hole after I took too much off, the other had porosity I knew about. Rewelded while still on the mill. Making sure I was earthed directly to the part.

4047 rods lovely to weld. Dowty washers, will hide the colour mis-match.

Once it cooled down I took the castings down to a local paintshop and borrowed his Vapour bead blast cabinet did all but the gearbox case today.

Stanwood Engineering dropped off the crank and white metal bearing support today. I’ll let the picture speak for itself, as I is not a happy bunny.
Allegedly the marks are from ‘corrugated cardboard, used to protect the white metal. Some of those indents must be 40thou FFS




In there defence they have said they will sort it out. Apparently it was their belief this surface was to be machined to give the correct end float. Something I never told them, in fact quite the contrary; usual method is to shim the front bearing if necessary. So definitely to be treated as a finished bearing surface from the start. I need to order the front bearing take some measurements and speak to Stewart Engineering and see what they recommend. What ever it cant be left like that

Pistons need valve pockets; miss a gear or fast roll off can make the valves bounce, marking the pistons, bending valves etc. This is a trial setup.

the bearing is good enough to check for TDC, and fit a finger to help timing setup.
Sif No8 rod just a tack at the moment to check its lined up, 30amps dc

Stock Fly wheel TDC is very hard to see, Painted yellow with 2.5* and 5* btdc and atdc. (Just to be safe)
