I'm basing it on the Sanyo engineers designed the mesh pitch to be optimal for the heating element. Thus it has to be the same afaiac.

Ahh sorry, I read "pitch" in your previous message at "patch", I was assuming you meant you wanted that same border around the piece. What is the pitch and hole size? I'd expect you can find something pretty close if not exactly the same.
I don't imagine it's actually very critical, it looks like the heating element is in it's own little shield so it's not like you're relying on the screen to keep the microwaves in, it's probably more to keep your fingers and pieces of food off of the heating element.

I'm looking for a small piece of perforated stainless sheet. Ideally 316 but 304 would be OK.
4.8mm dia holes at 6mm pitch on one axis by 5mm pitch the other. This is just the printed test template:

As a slight drift, we had one of the old tumble dryers that were a fire issue. Had it for 12 years, never an issue. for free. this one is equally trouble free but is much easier to de-fluff. Result.
