I had to pull my hobber apart today because it was blowing the earth leakage trip. Spent all day on it in the end because I found that the hobber has a 1.5kw VFD and 1.1kw motor whereas the grinder has a 1.5kw motor and 1.1kw VFD, so I swapped the VFD's over now I don't have to worry about overloading the grinder VFD.

Anyway, one thing that really annoys me is dropping the quick-change washers down the hole into the motor cavity on the hobber. Its a really cool system where you loosen the nuts and slip the washer off then you can change the gears as they slide over the nuts, and pop the washer back in. Those washers like to head for the hole right underneath and there's no easy way to get them out.

So I knocked up a mesh screen to cover the hole and still allow ventilation for the motor, and there are times when the change-gear setup require the hole to be there.

Now I have no excuse not to finish sawing out these brass plates, who's purpose will be revealed shortly.

Finally finished these, unfortunately drilling an 8mm hole in 3mm brass, by hand with no real workholding led to a rather poorly aligned hole, I ummed and arred over how to fix it for a while but ultimately decided to just solder it together as-is, I can get better alignment when I machine it apart to fit longer bars when I run out of space.






It's a rack to organise the pliers in my jewellers bench, would have been a lot less effort if I made slightly less decorative end plates, but where would be the fun in that? Not that this was very fun, 3mm material is slow going, even with the coarsest saw blades I could find. Soldering came out a bit messy too, this is about the limit of what my Smith Little Torch will handle (And certainly not a skill issue on my part ). Still needs cleaning up, I'll probably get to that in another month.

....bit of a pre Christmas "waste" emergency the wife's diet needs some attention I think
Nearly got an 8m set of rods jammed in there, so went for some hydraulic assistance. How people manage without a lathe is beyond me...from building motorbikes to unblocking turds... what a tool.
Christmas in the trenches.... literally

I put 30m of 15mm poly tube on an adaptor at the tap and a turned for the purpose brass jet nozzle at the turn end and fed it in the un blocked pipe end via a hocky stick shaped tube into the pipe . Then turned the water on and wriggled the pipe in and out till I noticed " extra " colours in the out flowing liquids once that happened the rest flowed out naturally . But it was the decider for me to replace all the soil waste pipes with proper sealed de burred pipework for somewhere flowspar was entering the pipework and forming calcifications

Brass was possibly the most difficult tbh, because it just wanted to crack when overworked.

Yep a few cuts from the stainless and the titanium. If it was easy everyone would do it.

I can't find a picture of the titanium but I'll take one today.

I did a lead one with off cuts from doing a roof.... it was easy to work!

I quite like that the grille mesh I'm making is a piece of casing from a duff microwave I scrapped! Just waiting for some 4.8mm cobalt bits as I can't find mine.

SWMBO is apparently going to drill all 600+holes. Well, it's her who wants the old microwave back to do Chrimbo dinner.....

This is something he uses to guide the cows down from the barn to where they get locked in a cage thing for vet inspections etc. As you can tell I've no idea what the correct name is as I'm no farmer



There is a gate that swings around the semi circle thing to encourage the cows down the alley

He wanted some sort of selfocking system so the cows couldn't back out so I came up with this from some old offcuts I had kicking about

There's 8 of the triangles arranged around the semi circle so as the cows move down he can move the gate just by pushing it

An improvement over the bailing twine he usually uses

I did have to put the welder and bottle on a pallet to keep it out of the cow poo

We've obviously been hung up on the same sort of stuff left unfinished First thing I thought too - even reaching over and snagging a coat sleeve is going to be annoying.
