ISCAR Tang-Grip was designed for CNC applications, on a manual lathe you need to push them hard, no point tickling the part. I power feed the tool at a fair rate.

120kg so it's 6.5x lighter than my Harrison 140.

Lack of mass will always lead to vibrations and harmonic chatter.

The kennametal inserts and blade I use need next to no cutting pressure, they just glide through stuff. I even parted off an alloy steel impact chisel one time. Gets a bit tougher as they reach the centre and the surface speed is slow.
Right enough the iscar tang grip blades at work are well liked by both machinists, one of them is too scared to push them hard too. That's on a DSG 17 and harrison M450.

Probably like you say it comes down to mass and rigidity. 120kg is very light... barely heavier than a myford! I'm impressed that you're managing to use a 25mm drill in it

Ive also got the same one as Pete showed above in 2mm wide, but I need to make a 32mm holder for it. Only have a few inserts, they look very good sharp ones that would work well on a small machine.

The headstock casting is about 15kg and spindle about 7kg so theres not much weight to it.

If I had access to a big mill I might try to machine a new headstock from a solid cast lump, adding an inch or two more centre height

A2 BNSN blade, 26mm
Inserts are A2*N**CF**: A2040N00CF02 grade KC5025

In retrospect i almost wished I hadn't went Kennametal on the blade, the inserts are horrendously expensive at retail. Then i spied a lot of 14 on ebay and snapped them up. Now ebay seems to have plenty of inserts.

I don't think it's any better or worse than the iscar tang grip setup, just different I like that you bottom out the insert on 3 sides on the A2 blade, rather than 2 sides like most parting insert designs.

A lick of paint and some very crude drawers out of whatever scrap plywood I had lying around:

The latches on the sides of the drawers are to stop them coming open while wheeling the unit across the garden and tilting it forward to get the back wheels into the shed.

Bodged some skates out of some old scaffolding boards to move my table out of the workshop so I give the floor a clean and paint. Perfectly engineered for about a tonne of surface table

Guard those 2.2mm inserts well I had 2 boxes of 10 and when they ran out found that they are very hard to replace for sensible money. That's why I have gone for the 3.1mm I found a box of 10 inserts for £25.

I had another look and mine are 3.1mm, 5 inserts and blade were £10 off ebay.

20 inserts is a lot of parting, did they not last?

When I previosuly tryed to mill a parting holder I made the top clamp stepped so that it could fit the bigger blades, the holder didnt work out and is now a boring holder, but still have the top which I think can be adapted. Plan is to tig a peice of 5mm plate with a crude grind 45 degree, then transfer and drill the clamp holes.

Sprayed 20 litres of paint, the Wagner setup works well!
Also started making some bushes for a little project. Used this 25mm spade drill for the first time, it's awesome. If I had the coolant hooked up, it would have absolutely flew through this with a decent bit of RPM...

This one does.
Just.
It's a high end DIY setup rather than pro kit, but the gun/nozzle setup is great and the pump is still a piston pump. It won't take standard thinners but xylene works well enough for cleaning and thinning. I didn't even thin down the red oxide and it laid it nicely. Using at full pressure though.
It'll do well for the little I'll use it

Previously I've looked into the Graco Mk5 Heavy Duty and King sprayers. Expensive but they appear to be the best you can buy.

I'd love a graco or even a pro grade wagner. I just couldn't justify the cost of a setup even second hand, and I wanted a full kit that was ready to go. I got this lot secondhand but I don't think it had done much work.
My uncle had a Titan setup, I should have bought it in his sale but it went for way more than I thought it was worth at the time!
Now I think I get it though. The pump is the important bit.

I like the Graco's and Titans / Wagner, and have repaired all sorts. For me the Graco is slightly nicer to repair and run, has the ability to tighten the top packing. I have a Titan 440 which I have used for high build epoxies and has done the job very well. I was using it on a bigger job (60 liters) of epoxy at max pressure on a smaller than recommended tip 517 and it did trip three times due to overload. If I used a larger tip it would have done it easier, but i wanted the better control and finer paint application so had to put up with what I had. These smaller units are not designed to run at max pressure for that much paint, it was a hot day also and the paint was starting to gell in the end. Those bigger (MK 5) units still output the same pressure but can use either a much bigger tip or two guns at the same time. It can be a supprise what one of these pumps can do. I also have a Graco extreme 90:1 air operated. Now that is a machine

What sort of graco unit would you recommend for spraying QD Zinc Primer, and EpoxIt's like Jotun Jotamastic 87, and Hardtop? May also need to spray Steelmaster 600

Today I finished making a couple of what I'm calling cotter pins.

The capstan lathe was missing a couple original pattern in the middle.

What started off as some rusty scrap turned out to me some nice free cutting steel.

Screw cut thread

Tidied up with a split die.

Then transferred to mill for the tool cut out shank size is 3/4" so I used a slightly bigger 20mm cutter.

Rounded end was finished on the lathe with a chamfer tool and Barsteward file.

Found some scrap plywood and finally put a shelf under my big surface plate to hold the small surface plates. They've been floating round the workshop for months.

Also cleaned my D Bit grinder up some more and wired up a new DOL starter. That's running now.

My sister in law is at 8th month pregnancy and positive to covid
My brother resulted positive at first test but negative later
My sister resulted negative the other day and positive today with symptoms.
I resulted negative , and I still not have any symptoms .
My days consist in go to buy things and go from town to town to take what's needed when and where it's needed .
