After melting one of the contacts in my new Elliott drill press I ended up rewiring it and making a bracket for the new switch.

Now that the old Fobco is surplus to requirements I thought I’d modify the stand I made years ago to fit my bandsaw. I might still add casters I’m not sure though.

8mm copper lengths for compressed air cooler. Wanted a 180 degree bend in them. Have a cheap tube bender tool which works fine when Ive tried on brass tube. On copper it seems to twist/kink/flatten the tube instead
I hammered the bends back into a semi round shape. Might chop them off and buy some elbows.

You need one of them bending springs you put in the tube, or pack with sand.

Don't think you can get an 8mm spring. I made a bending mandrel out of aluminium on the lathe years ago. Works a treat.

You can, i have a set of small bending springs i bought years ago. I'll try to find a link for you.

Put , " 8mm pipe bending spring " into Google .. there are loads both , internal & external springs .

What a day. Negative sleep, lots of coffee.
But it is what it is.

So, ambles to workshop, with fresh bread. Some thing pleasant about making bread by hand.

So, a good Cd on the player, fired up a heater and started to sort out stuff.



Pair of King dicks adjustable.
Due to a mistake they had been left in a citric tank for 7 days, along with other bits.
So dump the mess and made a fresh mix up and paced it on the heater.



Striped when still hot, then placed on a hot plate to dry out.



Found a name stamped in, so I highlighted it with bee's wax stained with ink.




When it was still warm, I rubbed in bee's wax and Linseed oil. The metal drank it up for about 6 applications. Then a nice finish started to show up.


This breast drill came my way, what drew me to it was the jaws.

It is designed to take a square shank drill bit, normally used in Bit and brace sweep drills.

Oh yes the handle was split from the rust, removing it showed it had dry rot.
Early morning fire, but I left the cat that lodges with me enjoying it.





Removed the old paint with hot caustic soda and re painted with rattle can paint. The rest of the metal was cleaned up with citric acid and a wire brush.



Finished, new side handle made from a old file handle.

Step one.



The meat grinder was not pleasant, so it was first cleaned in hot caustic soda, the chains in hot washing soda. The spanners, left in citric acid.



Cleaned, painted, clear coated and waxed.

Put them all together and what do we get?

A spanner holder.
No.

A chain maker?
No.

A fun item?
Yes.

Nowt exciting, still sqaring my new toys up and getting to grips with them so I made a simple jig for cutting wedges on the bandsaw and it works a treat:




And it nicely uses up small offcuts .

Headed down to the workshop this evening to get stuff ready for taking with me tomorrow and while I was there I made a quick and dirty cover for the scale I have on the tailstock and it doubles as a tray for bits and pieces.

The steelwork I fabricated earlier in the year is all erected for our neighbors restaurant,later in the year I have a disabled access ramp/stairs to make.First time I’ve tapered girders.
It’s going to be hot dining,when it’s all glazed!
All made from plans only,no fabrication drawings,that’s what I blame my 3 errors on.

Fit some file handles. I was quite happy using without handles but now I have more, I need some way to hang them. Now I need some where to hang them.

Chopped up a scrap ebony fretboard blank, I plan to glue it up and should make a decent hammer handle for the lump of tungsten I aquired last year

Making adaptor plate for the clamp knurler to fit the new knurling holder. I do not know why I drilled the second pair of holes cordless when I could have used the lathe much easier
