A mason's mitre is a type of mitre joint, traditionally used in stonework or masonry but commonly seen in kitchen countertops. In a mason's mitre, the two elements being joined meet as for a butt joint but a small section of one member is removed creating a socket to receive the end of the other.

Mason miter isn't to bad, I'm not overly happy with it but for my first one it'll do.

Sometimes you have no option when the worktop is slightly cupped.

Thank you! We had them in the kitchen worktop in our last place but didn’t know they had a name.

Pardon my ignorance, but why is it called a mason’s mitre?

I think the point is it's much less wasteful and perhaps easier to chisel from stone.

Easier to adjust the fit, if it is not snug.

I think I'm just being a bit picky, the fake grain coming together at 90 degrees probably makes me notice the joint more.
Got the breakfast bar and some other bits in today and we made our first meal in our new kitchen this evening .

Well, minus a few teething problems while we both adjusted to a much more modern cooker than the one we have been using for the last 3 years which was bought in 1985 by my gran when she owned the house. Turns out it needs calibrating in low light if the power has been off to it so the sensors well work when there is bright light in the room All very modern and took a few reads of the instruction booklet to find out why we were getting an error message.

More did than made, but today, determined to gee myself in spite of this 'bug', I went out to the shed [all the weather's fit for

] and did this. They've been annoying me for ages lying about on the bench! The magnetic tray with all my spanners etc will fit neatly to the left of the holders but I've not got a pic of it in place.





But what an ar*e of a job!!!! I was glad my neighbour had loaned me his rivet gun, instead of having to use my big 'lazy tongs' one.

Really awkward access, then I broke the 3mm drill for the mounting holes. Regrind, then crack on.
No!! Broke again [working at an angle to get some holders mounted] !! Ground another drill and pushed on - finally all drilled. Then to riveting. Got a few in then nipped the flesh of a finger in the gun. [Do you think I could sue my neighbour? ] Finally all in place and another job off the list.

Then I realised that the sleeve of my jumper had conveniently wiped the bed of the lathe of oil, so it's in the washing machine for the next wash.

These things are sent to try us, and they do.
