Today I packed away box 1 of the Quorn parts and had a look in box2 . Looks to be quite a few adjustable-angle parts but not needing much attention at first examination. That's for another day, soon maybe as we've showers or rain forecast.

I fitted a 6" disc to the linisher - 0ne of a set of three diamond coated ones I got off t'interweb, 240 grit, 600 grit and 3,000 grit. I fitted the 240 one and this is the result. currently held in place with strong double-sided tape which seems adequate for the time being.

I tilted the table to a nominal 45 degrees and the result is impressive at first look - I wonder what sort of finish the 3,000 one will give. Difficult to photo but you ge the idea I hope.





Off to pack stuff away, that's enough for today & lack of sleep is beginning to catch up.

I recently got a couple of sheets of 2 mm steel in the same order as some bits of aluminium for TIG practice.

Today I cleared my workbench and fitted a sheet of steel to make welding a bit easier when working on bigger stuff.

Until I took everything off the workbench, I hadn't realised quite how dirty the workbench had got:

Muc-off motorbike cleaner, then Flash kitchen spray, then acetone got it a bit better:

A piece of steel, 1250 × 625 × 2 mm covers most of the working area of the bench:

That slightly odd looking big hole in the middle near the front is for a home-made countersunk M10 screw that goes all the way through the bench and has a lump of brass screwed on the bottom as a place for the welder earth clamp to sit.

Had to plasma cut a couple of extra bits to fill in the gap at the back in a couple of places where it was needed:

and then the grinder and the drawer unit could go back into place:

The rest of the tidying up and putting stuff back can be a job for tomorrow.

Now is time for one of the last two bottles of cider I have left from my trip to Brittany in September:

I came back with about 30 or 40 bottles of this stuff (and a smaller number of more expensive ones) and have been working my way through it on sunny days. These are my last two unfortunately. It seems much harder to get not-too-fizzy and not-too-strong-alcohol dry cider in Blighty than it was in Brittany. Most of the stuff the local shops sell is about 8% which is WAY too much for me these days.

Well, today's efforts included filing and polishing the small die from my metalcraft bender, still had the cut lines from the plasma (or whatever they use) which was leaving marks when I was forming rings. About half and hour with some files and some wet and dry. It's not mild steel though, much harder, hence the half hour!

Then made this press plate semi circle round and polished it out.

So I could drill it and make it into another die for the bender.

And finally, made this. I had planned to use copper wire, but it was proving difficult so went with stainless. Not happy with how I've finished it, and extra 10mm would have given me another hole and I could have made a much neater end, but hey ho. I'm happy with how it's turned out.

Oh, and the reason for making the press plate into another die for the bender, the small one has a narrower throat than it's inner diameter. It's been proving tricky for some of the stuff I've been trying to do.

I lost use of a hand years ago after a small surgery and it was a real pain, was my left and I'm right handed so not even as bad as you've got it. Does make you think a little bit though.

Sorry to hear about your hand.
In my case isn't something permanent , probably ten days because a minor angle grinder injury
Honestly I can't and wouldn't like to understand what you felt like , I'm very sorry about what happened to you.
I can't even imagine how tough it could been .
Hopefully in the next future someone will find a way to solve your issue

I haven't made much with it to be fair, it's come in handy for some stuff, rolling the odd ring, bending some squares out of flat bar and now this. But I haven't really realized it's full potential I don't think. I'll grab a quick pic of the candlesticks I made the better half, used it a little bit for them.

Here we go, the squares for the top of these. Much neater than if I had tried to bang it out on the vice.

When I was a teenager I managed to fall of a motorbike and sprained both wrists pretty badly, lost the use of both hands for a couple of weeks - luckily I had a very attentive girlfriend!

When I was in East Grinstead waiting for surgery on my hand a guy came in who had been bitten on the wrist by his terrier whilst trying to free it from some barbed wire. He'd lost all use and feeling in his hand. They were going to open his wrist up to see where the damage was but an emergency case came in and they had to give him a bed and postpone the surgery until morning.

Next morning he woke up and his hand was perfectly fine
