Started making the knife
Better known as "Pattadese" , this (not this one specifically but the design) is the typical Sardinian knife , known in the world because reasons but I know it's known if you don't know it you should .
The other typical Sardinian knife is the "Lepa"
Similar but characterised by a tall an slightly"Bowie" looking blade
Anyway
That's my Pattadese version , I'm making it because my sister asked me to make one for her
The blade is around 10cm long and it's made out of a piece of angle grinder diamond wheel.
Original Sardinian knives are made by forging old Fiat cars leaf springs , I'm not equipped to do that so I have to do this way
Made the spring out of the same material
And mild steel 1.5mm sheet for the frame.
For the handle I'll use juniper ,a typical Sardinian wood (it's being cut in the 50's or 70's) that now it's forbidden to cut
Original Sardinian knives handles are made using bones or horns ,but again I'm not equipped to work those materials

I made quite a few Pokers as an apprentice, ICI had a perspex plant with all colour of off cuts being available, Poker shaft was made from a big stick welding rod,

Aye, Dad was a capstan setter on permanent nights back then - perspex of various alternating colours, but the shaft was c. 3/8" beautifully turned and polished [that didn't last, of course ] steel - nothing but the best for them!

I've been doing some cleaning of parts and have made some shiney bits. [not I hasten to add in @spencer 427's league, of course

I'm really enjoying this, it's obvious whoever made all the parts really knew what he was doing, the finishing throughout [well, this boxful anyway] is first class - if you zoom in on the bit in the middle of pic 1 you can see the markings/numbers for adjustment(s) he's done - quality work, even down to tiny brass discs to prevent the cap screws from marking the tubes when tightened [I nearly dropped/lost one....

]

Also, whoever dismantled & packed it [I suspect it was someone clearing out someone's shed/workshop/garage after a death, just a feeling...if the builder was still alive, why would he dispose of quality work like this for what I paid for it?] seems to have kept all the related bits together. Should make the jigsaw a little bit easier. We all know men don't read instructions/manuals , but in this case I fear.....
Good job I have the Quorn Handbook, then there's always www.lathes.co.uk to refer to as well.

Final decision is to paint, or not to pain? I'm quite liking the naked look atm.......

Might have a day off from it tomorrow as there's rain forecast from Sunday for odd times throughout the coming week, so I'll take the good of the fine weather to catch up with reading, exercise etc.. I can always move onto box 2 then, and see what else is hiding in there.

i know what you paid for it though i did say if you didnt want it that id have it off you for equal pay of coarse

That pass cost £7.50 a hectare for the growth regulator, I think theres only really one product cleared for use on grass though, that'll mean they can charge accordingly.

Aye, we looked into it when I was on the course [I had me + a part-timer 3 days a week to do it all [apart from the hundreds of greenkeeping experts too ] just 9 holes though....

We looked into it with a view to to reducing maintenance cutting a bit but it was cost prohibitive. I can't recall the product name though.

Got myself at least 10 days of left-hand life apprenticeship and holiday because I can't even eat properly without my right hand
I was using the grinder and I got a workpiece shrapnel in my finger (Don't ask me how because I'm still seeking a rational answer to this question)
Anyway 5cm superficial cut but in a stupid spot ,I can't close the thumb because the cut would reopen
So I have some time to learn to do things using my left hand

Another little lockdown job, made my ladder red.

Before anyone says it, yes I know it's frowned upon to paint wooden ladders but it's lashed to the wall vertically in the garage for me to get into the garage roof space, not lashed to a 200 footer and it never did Mr. Dibnah any harm painting his ladders

You can kill or seriously injure yourself falling from ridiculously low heights. I think because it's generally the back of the head which impacts first, the victim not having had time to attempt a cat style landing.
