who am I kidding, its the fingers Im wanting as I cut my little finger tip and its to keep it clean........ using the fingers and gloves gives me 5 covers for my finger, to cut down on the number of gloves used
We use finger condoms at work when greasing high voltage cables... 450kV will use the slightest moisture or contamination as an aid to break free.

Just a quick bracket I made for my battery charger. Its just from scrap lying around. A quick paint and she is sorted. Functional is the word.

How's the charger attached to the bracket?
The four screws the hold the charger together. I just put longer ones in.i seems sturdy enough
Made from a couple of those cast flowers you get from garden centres, the original paint had chipped off and they were very rusty. The Leaves came from an old rusted hanging basket. A dip in the citric acid tank and some TIG tacks together, followed by a paint up and now in the garden.

Bit of fun this after noon and yesterday morning.
I was challenged to restore this roofers axe to a usable condition.
But with one power tool. Plus one modern tool.
Let the fun commence.
This is how I found it. There was a crack running up from the Nail Slot.
My One power tool, the Dremal. The crack was "V" out on both sides. Then using a Modern Gas torch set up it was brazed up. The head was hardened and tempered at the same time.
Not the neatest job, the rod was reluctant to flow, but when it did, it spread.
Last use of the Dremal, was to re-cut the slots on the head. I followed the deepest lines, but there is at least one more set cut in.
Cleaned up with hand tools, emery cloth, sand paper and a stone to dress the shaft rivets and smooth the burrs off.
The Cutting edge was as sharp as stick. I didn't fancy dressing the side by hand and stones. No more modern tools or power tools were allowed.
So. I pulled this wet stone out.
Out of all the jobs, this took some hand eye coordination and concentration. But it did bring the edge up a treat.
The stain.
The challenge at this point was questioned. But the reply was:
Unless the stain is old stock, or a old method then nowt else can be used.
So.
3 teabags were sacrificed to a good cause.
The tea was mixed with white spirit in a bowl in hot water. When you have a dark shade add Linseed Oil until you have a thin paste.
Apply and let dry. Then add as many coats as you want.
Then warm the stain up and melt in Bee's Wax.
Apply and buff.
The wood will shine up and wear in as it gets used.
The repair shows up nicely, the rivets on the straps have came up nicely.
The cutting edge is sharp. This is never going to be used as a "Roofers Axe" but I will use it as a "Kindling Axe."

Local builders merchants opened up again today so i grabbed a few bits and some timber to make the shelves for my man cave to host the haynes type manuals.

Some garage tidying today only left me with a bit of time to bend some flat things into some rounder things. I will say it wasn't fun. And the silver soldering of the wire ends was also not as joyful as I would have liked. Need a bottle of propane to use a better torch and a little hearth to make life easier.
Anyway, ended up with these 2 to add to the collection.

Fun rebuild of a sentimental table.
Nice beech frame, chipboard top and some stainless fixings.
Taken a lot of use over 20 years, but was clearly in need of some TLC.
Oh yes, the fixings, not a standard size.
Manky frame, but solid. This was after it was washed with washing up liquid and hot water.
Frame was cleaned and smoothed with a Cabinet Scraper, the wood was decent enough that very little sanding was needed.
That's is with a coat of sanding sealer.
The top was a recycled cabinet.
What is going on here is I am Hard Wax filling of some holes and surface grain defects. In the end I used 5 different shades of hard wax.
Paraffin Blow torch is running so I can use the dead screwdriver to melt the wax into the holes and "podge" it in the split grain.
Ready to French Polish. This is a "Rubber" I knocked up to apply the polish.
Assembled, 5 coats of French Polish, rain drove me inside. Waiting to be waxed.
2 coats of bee's wax applied with fine grain wire wool and buffed off with a cotton rag. 2 coats applied with a brush, final coat with the cotton rag.
Back in it's place.

A Tilley Lamp, pulled from a box, buried in a wood store, at the back, in the back garden. Should of told me all I needed to know.

Look complete, but the cap was damaged. But if it worked a replacement cap could be found.
Test burn.
Or not.
Leaks from every joint, not burn and the pump rod would rise up and also leak.
Rebuilding the component's. I had spares from my last few rebuilds.
But this didn't fit, as I would find out later.
Nope, still leaking.
The test of the old Vaporiser showed it should be working.
So, each part was tested on 2 know good units. As individual parts they work.
But assembled as a complete unit, this is the best we got.
It was only that good as I swooped over the good tops.
Oh well a few hours wasted in a fun thing.
So, were is my box of electrical fittings?

Car bumper protector. You hang it from the garage ceiling so you know when you've reversed far enough by the noise it makes as it taps the back window
