So now the digging. I'm am not looking forward to doing this trench by hand. I've calculated it at 20×.3×.75 = 4.5m³. That's just to get the duct and power to the garage. Probably double that to do the trench the full plot width to allow for future drains etc.

I REALLY need a digger. Keep mulling these Chinese ones...

A much cheaper alternative is a bigger electric jackhammer with a spade bit on it.

I have had to trench across the yard for new cables out to the solars etc, and rather than get my jcb and rip a big trench across it with all the resultant destruction that ensues, I just put the spade bit on a 3kw electric demolition (jack) hammer (the type that take hex with a flat bits, and cant be used as a drill and weigh 40+ kg) and cut out a small clay spade bits widths channel to depth and laid it in a flexi duct as per regs.
The demolition hammer is also usefull to drive metal fence posts in with a post bit. I was expecting it to be pants for this but its surprisingly good at it.

Did you know that you can empty a wheelbarrow? You don't need to buy a new one every time its full!

Yes I've been using boards, not quite scaffolders length but more suited to the job.

Done, for now. Two and a third rolls left although they have suffered in places, I might wait to see how well they recover . Note the bottom left peice and the peice around tree are a bit black.

I could lay the extra rolls top down which would get about half way, or cut them long ways to get to the bottom. Dont really want to waste them.
I could ofcourse buy some, another 10 rolls should finish off that side of the path, however its a lot more digging and prep.

I'd feel stupid to buy turf having done it half and half, would have been much easier to level doing it all at once (and without the cherry!).

Its starting to look quite good, I think. Watering every other day when it hasnt been raining.

Still need to clear and lay the 2.5 turfs on the right then move the big bag of soil somewhere..

Not today, but Sunday,
have gone through 3 burnny bins in the last 2 years because the bottom rots out.
Had an idea to make a stand that would allow better air into fire and not rot out in one season.
was going to spend money on some metal then remembered i had quite a few old angle-iron ground stakes,
Welded the mesh out of rebar, with some old scaffold tubes for legs.
Its probably the ugliest thing ive ever welded, but it works

I've done it once by hand already! 13m x 750mm deep by a mattock / boot's width.

This new trench is only 3+ times as long and twice/three times as wide

Bent with my 5 minute 3d printed jig 320 springs followed by cutting them to length, anyone need ~600x 1mm dia 25mm long 304 stainless pins?

Progress on the camper conversion. Went from this very basic set up that admittedly served me quite well for a long time:



To something a bit more usable, if not luxurious:



The worktop and internals are 12 mm plywood, the doors and frame are reclaimed pallets, and I'm chuffed to bits with how it's all turned out. The left hand cupboard will house 2 x 100ah lithium batteries as well as the solar panel controller, the mains charger, the dc-dc charger, and all the other associated electrics, with all the culiary tranclements in the main cupboard, split between the green crates, and not forgetting the compressor fridge that's mounted on a slide.

Still some work to do, such as some wooden storage boxes for the top shelf and a dedicated cutlery organiser that will live in between the 2 crates, some Fablon on the worktop, and maybe a coat of protective varnish on the outside of the doors, but overall I'm very pleased that I achieved a rustic look which is how I envisaged it when I started it.

Nice, did you use proper spring wire? Theres some springs I want to make but found tig wire is soft and not at all springy.

Lol I didn't make the springs thankfully, just put a bend and trimmed each leg. From a load of stock stainless springs.

I put a loop on the end of a chain today. Easy you might say, but it's quite a small chain.



Promised a friend I'd fix her necklace over a year ago. Should be an easy job, just solder a loop back in the end, unfortunately my butane torch wouldn't touch the solder. Tried it this morning with the new oxy torch and instantly melted the ring. Ho hum, just means I get to try out more of my new toys in anger.

Sawed off about 8mm of 3mm sterling wire, then rolled and drawed it down to 200mm of 0.4mm wire, just to use about 10mm of that to make a new ring. Carefully this time, I managed to solder it closed and stick it to the chain.
