with firepit and plasma, it was going to need some air holes, and it seems I will need to add more and probably bigger.

Got smokey as the bottom filled with ashes.

Sprocket silver soldered. I thought I could cheat using silverflo55 filings from a previous part as I wasnt sure it would wick down to the bottom face. The filings must have had some steel or dirt as they didnt really wet out, some small flames. I had given them plenty of flux paste.

Turned nicely even being intermittent. First cut took it to 10.2mm

Decided that it had not wetted out the face so there was little point in trying to turn the collar off, instead I reheated it.

Fitted compared go old sprocket. Its not a loose fit but has no drive flats yet. New plan is to turn some to braze in.

The mini 4 and 8" bars have a narrower mount and wont fit so test with the echo bar. I'll look for a cheap 8" bar for this but useful to know it fits.

I think allot of those sprockets are powdered metal.

Sintered metal, yes. Most smaller gears and sprockets are, particually the cheaper ones.

Air holes enlarged. I wont be winning any awards for neatness! The torch did not like dragging on the rough rusty surface. Wont try it tonight as it may annoy people if I use it too often.

Turned up a piece to allow me to use my 6" 4 jaw chuck on my small rotary table - with an 8 TPI thread one end, secured by an M8 bolt in the other end.

This was my first go at thread cutting on the lathe - and whilst far from perfect - I'm happy enough with it.
I can see my tool centre needs a tiny bit of fettling...

The kitchen light fixture over the sink went bad, it's a very old 2' long double tube fluorescent one.
The sockets crumbled as I took the tubes out, the main box is plastered in, with a swing down frosted glass
cover.
So I pulled the back plate down, and gutted it, bought some LED 6" round "can" replacements.
Marked the centers, and set it up on my CNC plasma table for cutting.

I have a little time to kill before Mrs. Blue Chips and I go to a friend's house for Xmas dinner, so I thought I'd make a quick post.

Yesterday, I made an undercarriage washer out of PVC pipe, some cheap plastic nozzles, and a quick-disconnect garden hose fitting. I'm planning on having my new Ford undercoated soon. It will probably be either a lanolin- or wax-based coating, and I wanted to be able to rinse off road salt without damaging the undercoating. The automatic car washes around here seem to have quite powerful undercarriage washers, and my undercarriage washer attachment for my pressure washer is far too powerful, so I cobbled together a washer that connects to my garden hose to gently rinse off the salt, hopefully without taking any of the undercoating with it.

I had fabbed up a pull-out fairlead hose setup a while back that allows me to simply retract the garden hose into the basement when I'm not using it, and then just pull it out whenever I want to use it during the winter. The valve handle is outside, but the valve is located inside the house, so it never freezes. On any above-freezing day, I can just pull out the hose, connect it to the undercarriage washer, rinse the undercarriage with three or four passes under the truck, disconnect the washer, and lay the washer down at a slight angle on my dock (which has been hauled in for the winter) to allow it to drain.

I made a rack for short pieces of material, the 5 gallon buckets were taking up too much room.
Scrap 16 ga metal, new CNC plasma cutter, simply used the standard shapes built into the machine, no CAD files needed.
I wish I had this machine qty (30) years ago...

Repaired a set of steps for a friends tractor, I was going to patch them up, but decided it was quicker to just renew the side rails, he probably got more than he though he was going to get, I believe replacements are available £845 per each!!

The steps also hold up the diesel tank, they were tied up with a rope, there was not much left to get sizes at the lower end, its pretty close to what it was.

Photography is not my thing either as you will see by the poor photos!! please excuse the untidy bench!!

More messing about with the katsu cordless chainsaw. First the mini mini 8" katsu bar needed the mounting slot widened and lengthened to fit, which gives about 6-6.5 inches of usable bar length.

Second the sprocket I had modified would need driving flats of some kind. It had also been fully annealed by my previous bodgery and some wear marks visible from a quick test - where superglue would have been better than silver soldering..
So to fix both issues decided to braze a single flat into the bore, gravity assisted, using sifbronze flux and, I think it was brass brazing rod about 800 or 900c. As its small, used up some propane.
Then with enough braze applied I kept it hot and dropped in a tub of water to harden, and then in citric to remove the flux.

It is now glass hard, files wont touch it, which is great I can remove the excess braze then it will need a 200c temper, I will sneak it in the oven with dinner!

Altered/modified the scroll saw. Realised when using it earlier that I don't want to be blowing the dust, so added a piece of copper brake pipe to the 90° adapter I fitted to the extraction outlet, & ran a pipe to the blower, so now it's sucking rather than blowing. Surprisingly, it actually appears to work reasonably well.

Lovely idea I wish I'd have thought of that for my ancient scroll saw before spending £22 inc pipes & tubes on a double element fish tank pump as the blower.
Might have a look at it in daylight tomorrow as it's not yet been modified .

Building a function generator based on an ICL8038 precision waveform generator. This will be used as a local oscillator in a heterodyne circuit.

I needed to replace one of the supplied potentiometers. Note the pricing on my replacement - new old stock.
