I had one of those 4000 watt SCR things, returned it the day it came as it all appeared too crappy, thanks for confirming my suspicions.

I wouldnt say crappy as the triac chip is massively over rated, theres nothing massively wrong with the design.

Started cladding it today but had to quit when it started raining Saharan mud. Got you some piccies though:

All the spots on the last pic are rain spots from the big dust cloud from the Sahara desert that has been oppressing us for the last day or so. Note the gorgeous welds. Not all of them were that perfect but even some of the fillets look pro. The bolts don't poke through far enough to warrant grinding off.

Further to my Solar panel install of yesterday, I took my old stereo currently plugged into the mains. Whipped off the battery compartment and discovered that it takes 8x 1.5v cells
Took a few minutes to identify the battery terminals that were at the 'ends', but once found ran some cable from them to the load output on the controller.

Free, off grid, music .... as long as you ignore the couple of hundred I've spent on the solar set up ...

Recovering well from my recent hip replacement operation, but having to take it easy in the workshop for the moment. So have taken a bit of time to fix some storage of some awkward shape necessities.

Secondly, my motley collection of 'bigger' micrometers, till now, these have usually ended up laying in the chip tray of one of the lathes waiting for something big and heavy to fall on them.

Finished off the seacock lid/adapter.

Started joining up the aluminium I chopped up yesterday.
Raining today so used my bench, otherwise known as the bandsaw.

6 main sections done but I will have to wait until there is no rain to finish as it is too big to do any more in the workshop.

Cut up some 6mm steel on the plasma but had issues, not sure what the problem is but not only are the edges corrugated but the sizes are 1mm out, outsides too big by 1mm holes too small. Thinking it may just be a bad nozzle, well I am hoping that is the problem

They're flexible hones. Each one does a range of sizes, across about 6-9mm range with the big ones; but no more than a couple of millimetres with the small ones. Used in a pistol grip drill whilst moving the hone up and down the bore and applying plenty of fine lube. They produce a good surface finish very quickly and are good for final sizing where a reamer would be a bit of a blunt instrument like new small end bushes and valve guide bores.

Started to rebuild a big excavator bucket, and when I say big I mean big enough to sleep inside of it .
Many hours of oxy propane cutting and gouging .
Tomorrow too many hours of grinding .
Hopefully I'll weld it.
I've already convinced them to buy a cheap needle scaler , and we are all excited about , they didn't know it and they didn't expect it was so powerful and time saving.
Tomorrow I'll teach to my boss son (which is my boss too) to weld using E7018 he will teach me to start Tig welding.
I'll take a few carbon electrodes too hopefully I'll convince them to buy an arc welder and an arc air Torch

3/4" transfer punch.





It's for my disc sander build.

Found my centre.
Put a little punch mark in it.

The 3/4" bar stops the pulley slipping off centre while centre punching marks for bolt holes. There's a post on the machining thread about making that.

All drilled, bolted together and set up for a quick test. This is not the finished item, obvs.
Squeeky bum time. An extension cord was used to power the thing up which kept me well away from it.
My chainsaw helmet made an appearance too. Normally I use the sockets to the right of the picture but I'm not standing there to switch this on.

The test works! Yay! Nobody died. There's a guard to be made of course, plus a load of other bits. The replacement power cable arrived today but I'm still waiting for the on/off switch before it all gets wired properly.

That's something I've been considering doing. I have a 1½, (I believe), HP motor in the workshop. It'd be perfect for a 12" sander.

That one I've got is a modern motor. Got it secondhand, but unused, a few year ago. It's still never been used for owt.
