Thanks. I went digging on google and found a few calculators (that agree with each other) for 1ph motor run capacitance and it looks like the 2µF capacitor is intended for the lowest power rating, 40W (it's a 3 speed pump). At 95W on 3, it suggests a ~5µF capacitor so there must be a fair tolerance on the acceptable capacitance. I'll tag getting a replacement on the bottom of the to do list, just to get the cover back on if nothing else...

Turns out 4µF is not the ticket and made the pump quite noisy, referred to the last 2 rads in the system where you could feel them vibrating as well as hearing it, which was handy being bedrooms and the front room.

2off 4µF caps in series for testing and it's back quiet again. I can't find a cap online for less than about £7+postage so I guess the £8-9 ones on ebay might not be the rip off I initially assumed...

my executive dysfunction having today not reared its ugly head, i cleared the back garden and storage area today. its where i was sandblasting so there was a veritable beach there. all the sand shovelled into a sack for future use as building sand and all the crap lying about thrown away. pressure washing the paths then turned them into something i haven't seen in a while... a tidy floor...

now what am up to?

this is me beginning to fix my rear driveway. its cracked up and chunks missing because it was laid, a long time ago, about 2" thick.

30 bags of cement, 4 ton of aggregate 1 ton at a time, and a lot of sweat....

this is ton 1, just for perspective...

Problem with 2 automated valves passing when under load (60,000 l/hour) Technical manager identified the issue yesterday afternoon.
Bit of a rummage through spare bits and rob some partially built kit in the workshop first thing this morning to codge something together.
On site installing replacements for the commissioning guys by 12.30 this afternoon with new valve plugs and different actuators, along with slightly different control heads.
