I'd suggest putting suitable heatshrink over the tape, it stops the tape slipping over time and releasing all its lovely stickiness.

Good suggestion. This electrical tape is quite good though, hasn't failed me yet.
If it does I've got plenty of good quality vulcanizing tape.

Over the last couple of days, prettied ( ) the suspension unit on my Piaggio.

I decided drastic measure were needed when I couldn't undo the top nut a few weeks back.

Drilled and split. Cost - one 2mm drill.
Acetic acid derusting of the spring, some Smoothrite black, silver paint and some judiciously applied grease, and it's all back together. It's not pretty, but it looks a damned sight better than when it came off.

Now to sort the carb, again. Bloody slow-running jet doesn't need much excuse to clog up.

Last week, I POR 15ed a bike petrol tank, and 'something happened'... it foamed up in the tank and left an inch thick layer of rock hard foam on one side of the tank. I cut it out to clear the fuel gauge hole and then left it, partly because I I have another tank to do and have no idea how to stop it doing the same again, and partly I was just hacked off with the whole exercise.
Today I was googling about trying to find an 'Expert' to ask, and thought some pics would be handy. While propping it up, I prodded the foamy crap at the edge of the gauge hole and it cam loose. I poked a screwdriver under it and all the foam peeled off in one piece, and even better it left a nice shiny layer of silver lining the tank... Took some faff to get a 8"x 3" hard lump of foam out through a 1.5" hole, but its quite a relief to have saved the job. Who knows how much trouble I can get in painting the outside...

Its almost certainly my fault... The instructions are less than clear.. I used the metal prep on the second one which seems to just be mostly very expensive phos acid which they say will remove rust but all make it rust as a key for the sealer. Not sure if thats made any difference.

Following on from my repairs on our chicken shed due to rat action, the local dog ratting club paid a visit today. I must say they were thorough, their Jack Russell terriers were ruthlessly efficient. I don't want to go into detail, I don't take killing any animal lightly, but I don't think we will have a problem for a while. I've just ordered some Mk 4 fen traps and enclosures to keep it that way. One did get away, got into a dry stone wall, no way of getting it out without taking the wall apart.

the riverbank near us was infested with rats me and mate took the dogs a ferret and guns down .in popped the ferret out popped the rats the fisherman sh.it themselves dogs and rats flying all over. shot a few rats swimming the river it was fast and over in a few mins

Not so much fixed, as reassembled. Okay, I had to dab some weld on one of the bolts which had fretting, allowing the moving jaw to misalign.

It's been in pieces for, perhaps, a couple of years. Phil @hermetic I finally used the nut and bolt that you were good enough to send me
The whole was given a generous coat of Zebo. I'll polish that tomorrow then give it a smothering with a wax Polish to seal it.

Excellent news, its great when a plan comes together, and a bolt that doesn't match will bug you for evermore! Glad could help!!

Yesterday I fitted a Dashcam with rear cable reversing camera combo into the campervan. Initially I was just thinking reversing cam just as insurance against the cost of just one slight error, but as I needed a screen, and with the idiots and scammers out there, it made sense to go Dashcam route.

There was an old kaput "Brigade" screen unit make & reversing camera & cable run through the van when I bought it - and I did thr internal conversion with the idea that I'd be able to use the existing camera & cable. Nope.

I knew that Running a new cable & cam would be a royal PITA.... and so it proved. Disassembly of an overhead cupboard, trim removal/refit, fishing & drawing cable in with coathanger wire, cursing and sweating in awkward cramped spaces etc.

It's one of those where you wish you'd had the foresight to just bite the bullet and do it as one of the first tasks.
Live & learn. At least it seems to work well.

Grabbed this before it got thrown into the skip. It’s broken but I’ll try and fix it. Someone has tried before and failed. Don’t know what make it is, it did have a plate on the side but it’s been taken off

^ That looks quite like my Kamasa bench vice, I'll try to take a photo of it if I remember tomorrow. That one seems to be missing the bit that bolts to the bench, if those two holes in the base are threaded.

One of the threads has gone in mine, I was using it to form ribs in a panel before I had by bead roller. Unfortunately I was hammering over the open jaws, I didn't think of clamping a suitable piece of wood between them. The jaw doesn't flap about, but it's not great.

I had one crack with fatigue last year, which I had been meaning to replace, and figured if one was duff I'd better check the others.

Sure enough two others had signs of fatigue (but not yet cracking), so replaced those too.
