Some times spares parts take up space.
So when this came my way I thought it would be a good idea to use the spares I have for theses Bialladin style lamps.
Then a off the cuff remark along the lines off.
Can you make it work?
Normally in this state it cost too much to get parts and spares. I break them for parts and sell them on.
I thought, well hoped I had enough spares to rebuild it for little or any new out lay of funds,
Test one.
Check pump washer. They dry out.
many make the mistke of using minerale oil. This is not advised. Vegetable oil, ground nut oil is advised.
The washer was dry and a dip had it brought back to life.
Put some Lamp oil into the tank.
Give it 30 full pumps.
This proves the pump, non return valve and if any leaks are present.
Take it out side and open the control and a jet of fuel should shoot out.
This is not good.
The non return valve is not working.
Some lamps, stoves and heaters the pump body can be removed. Not on this type, the tube is fixed in place.
Not th best shot, but you can just see the NRV.
Poking around showed that there was the remains of 3 old pump washers.
You can spend a fortune on the right tool to remove the NRV.
Or you can use a old tool.
Like the screwdriver shown here.
Remove the valve and strip it down.
A bit of blue tack will hold it into place as you refit the valve.
Using the spares I had i rebuilt the lamp.
The glass is original manufactures design.
The top is from a earlier version, but it will work .
The mantle is a generic type, the original ones are a bit bigger. But this type give out the same amount of light.
There was no real need to restore or rebuild this, other than the fun

Local Company made the canopy.
My friend stained the wood with many coats of wood stain and varnish.
When we came to fit it to the wall. We hit a few issues.
LHS is 32mm out of line.
The vertical runs are 19mm out of square.
Nipped to a salvage yard, 2 old scaffold planks.
Theses we planed to take out the distortion. This meant the canopy now sits flush with the wall.
Just the inside of the roof to stain a lighter shade, add some linseed oil to the lot and the job is done.

The nasty red rubber bung.
But I also don't like paying daft money for replacement.
So when I found a replacement for £0.50 I was happy.

I do like a nice classic drawing set.
Like this one.
Theses are in good working order. But do need a service.
Some one has tried oil to lubricate the pivot points.
The silver plated name plate is polished almost through to the brass.
The leather is in a bad way.
But some wax/oil mix and some buffing we have saved it.
Each item was stripped down cleaned and assembled with the smallest amount of wax possible.

That is Nail varnish remover and talcum powder.

This Girl Guide Pen Knife.
Yes I cleaned my dirty finger prints off.
This Rope caliper looks good.
But it was bent.
But a bit of bending, a bit of polishing and we have it shinny.
This did not work.
The operating lever pin was broken. So I made a new one and fitted that.
The clock work unit was seized. So I cleaned in a Meths bath. The meths went from purple to black.
The bulbs work, just one has a cracked holder. Fixed by the last owner. It worked, so I left it.
All done.

This was a nice simple restoration.
Un jammed the burner assembly. Tease the door up.
Replace the rotten wick.
Re-bend the handle to the correct position.
Clean the glsss.

I got this the other day.
I knew it had issues.
Missing drain plug and the guages needed to be replaced.
But when looking at the prices it was getting daft to spend that amount of money.
Then, if by magic.
This appeared.
The switch is dead.
But it had the spares I wanted.
Along with a drain plug.
Up and running.

My boy laughed certain anatomical parts items off when he found mine in with the Oxford welder, asked what it was and got the reply "The Slag Hammer" - guess which bit of his anatomy he referred to as such for about 6 months after...

Got round to replacing one of the three brake shields today.
Typical, the the retaining screw wouldn't come out and got chewed up.
Welded on a nut.
Sorted.
Had to break out the big hammer to get the disk off.
The old screws for the shield were good surprisingly.
Would have been a 20 min job if I hadn't have had to mess about with the welder. Glad I had spare disc locating screws.
I may get onto the rears tomorrow.
