Darker colours do show up the 'marks', dents, uneven panelling, more than white
I saw an old LDV today that looked like it had already been through a scrapyard crusher, it was that bent... it had been painted matt army green with suitable 'outdoor adventure' graphics mostly in black - and funnily enough it looked okay, as though it genuinely had been down a few canyons and survived a few arctic winters... rather than delivering parcels with Royal Mail for a million miles.
After a week just feeling too rough to do anything, this afternoon I had another go at my Park guitar amp.
Finally sussed it, input amplifier blown, dual amplifier chip. I proved it by robbing an identical ic from the reverb circuit. So now to find a replacement (ne5532 or 4558dd if anyone has one).

Bit of fun yesterday and over friday night.
No power tools, just old fashioned hand powered tools and coffee.
This is already on its way to its new home.
All it needed was a service and oil.
With a clossed in gear box, the grease can shift away from the places it is needed.
Easy to sort.
Bent springs can be teased back into shop on a former and re used.
This has had a hard life.
Hack saw removed the mushrooming. A hand cranked wet stone repaired the head and cutting edge.
Not perfect, but it will work.
A lot more of the donnations have be fixed/restored/cleaned.

Today (well yesterday) I fixed my compressor.
Old 3hp twin cylinder Ingersoll that just run and runs with next to no attention apart from the odd oil change.
It finally decided it needed a holiday and stopped working.
I have another 3hp compressor, but this one is remarkable quiet for a piston compressor so gets the most use.
A quick check showed that one of the contacts in the pressure switch was open circuit.
Took it apart and found that I could get the contacts out if I bent the connector tabs.
Gave the contacts a clean with very fine sand paper and put it back together again.
One of the contact tabs was a bit slack, but a dab of 5 min epoxy sorted that.
It runs, and hopefully will keep going for another 40 or so years.

This bilge pump was acquired by me the other day. I knew it had issues, I used that to get a 10% discount on it.
In bits. The last owner had used, or tried to use pipe wrenches to undo the caps. This meant I had to use needle files to repair the damage.
Dull job, but had to be done.
Warming the body with a blow torch expanded the brass enough for a gentle force had the caps off.
The details on the top cap allowed me to find and contact the manufacture. This led to them sending out "New" Old stock out to me.
Repaired, polished and mounted to a bit of pine.
As the brass cleaning gear was out.

This fantastic plane came my way in a large donnations of tools.
It has suffered from being in a damp box.
De rusted with wire wool and small wire brushes.
Thne the plane was warmed over a hot plate. Then wax/oil was applied to all the parts.

Not restored, but more of preserved, I need more time to do a real strip and repaint on this. But it will not get any worse.
It was given a good wash with hot water and washing powder, given a goos scrubbing as well.
Then it was dried on a hot plate.
The wick was rotten, so I made a new one.
When it was nice an warm, wax/oil mix was applied and worked into all the joints.
Even finished this as well.
New washers and seals as well.

Finished replacing the inner and outer right hand wings this morning, the whole front end is held on with 2 screws, 7 self tappers and a couple of plastic clips!

The chim;ey was missing, the retaining arms were bent.
The wicks were modern ones.
The shade is original and so is the finish of the metal.
This was the chimley I got gor it. As per the model details.
Shame I amde a mistake and read the number as an English one, not as it is.
An American lamp.
The shade ring was repaired, the broken joints re soldered and the metal polished.
New correct wicks were made and fitted.
First light with the chimley. A nice even flame, lots of light.
Finished.
