Yeah, if only i thought of it before fitting 5m tails to every damn earth clamp i own..



I plan to fit a rear Anderson plug to the van, so i can fit a winch to the trailer and it won't need an onboard battery. Looked at those nice coiled Anderson leads but they're something insane like £185!

I could do with a set like you've got with adaptors, they're slways useful.

I'll add it to the list and the pile of parts waiting to go on the van and trailer. I only bought it because it had the higher tow rating, but it has all additional wiring and switches that are useful and now need to be sorted.

I ordered 4 male female dinse connectors last night, following this thread, on reflection I need eight...

Sounds like you channelled your inner Moose, and didn't order enough. I either order too few that i can't do what i need or so many i've cornered the global market and can single-handedly control the price by eating up the entire supply.

Should work perfectly. All my cables are 35mm² so its capacity exceeds my welders' max outputs. Even a 15m lead shouldn't be a problem @ 200A.

My jump leads are 50mm2, so I ordered the 300 amp jobees.

They're already at least 3 m long, possibly 4, but the option of extension just arouses me.

Then they can double up as arc welding leads too.

I don't use them that often, but then last night my Volvo had a failed bulb, major dismantling of bits, left the headlights on for half an hour plus. Guess what, wouldn't start...

For jump leads the Anderson’s make more sense because you can’t confuse + or -, like moose earth leads and working on plant is a ball ache, I have daisy chained mine with decent length lead and dinse, seems to cover most things.

FHaving been plagued with deteriorating forge performance for the last 2 years,and several experiments later,I’m convinced the blast hole in the tuyere has enlarged itself?! This little bodge has cured its fault,if only I’d have thought of that earlier,you see the coke falls into the said hole thereby reducing the blast effect.

It’s fixed @Brad93 ,all I could do was tip the whole forge down,wouldn’t like that,besides,I’m convinced the blast hole has become enlarged over the years by an end piece falling or wearing off,its now 27 mm bore.

My dad has just done his, had to modify the back of the forge a bit (but took the opportunity to fit a drain and a float valve to the bosh.
Much improved.

Why ,did he have coke going into the hole? Did it develop into a problem over time?

Yeah forge got worse over time.
Not as hot and kept making a ton of clinker, probably where it wasn’t burning properly.

He spoke to one of his pals, engineer who worked with Cecil Swan to make the portaforge, he said tip the tueiron down

I first looked at the reviews on B&Q for Corrubit (2.2mm thick) and they didn't look great...


Being fair that snagging does look like incorrect support (lack of pitch could probably cause that too). Still, it looks horrible though! I am not after a "30 year old semi-abandoned allotment shed look" but within three years.

I then looked on Screwfix and Corrapol-BT (2.0mm thick). Reviews are not good...


Corrapol-BT reviews on the B&Q website were low too; splitting seems to be the issue.

So I settled on Wickes and the Onduline (3.0mm thick and 20mm wider too). Really good reviews...


Hopefully it'll hold. 15 year guarantee if you can believe it.

I also went with Onduline screws rather than nails. I'm sure both would work but having never done it before and fearing a need to undo something I decided a screw comes back out a little easier than a nail and is guaranteed to be reusable. They only come in 60mm lengths (nail version seem to be 70mm). I didn't over drive the screw (as directed) but they really only needed to be 50mm for me (maybe 45mm). I had to angle grind the tips off quite a few from the inside as they had come through in places.

Not as hot and kept making a ton of clinker, probably where it wasn’t burning properly.

This was my conclusion,had the forge 19 years,this problem started 2 years ago,thought it was the coke as the lumps seemed bigger,went over them with the waker plate,to no avail,anyway I’ve had 2 good days forging now and it’s back to the old days.

I went with the red/brick Corrapol 3mm [also with the screws] for recovering the cave roof on which the felt had started to leak, very happy with the product. I got it from a Company near Glasgow and their service was brilliant.

Sadly, the shed had become very slightly 'diamond shaped' so the ridging sections don't fit exactly with the sheets, but there was nothing the local chap fitting it could do about that....... It just doesn't look as neat as it could have, but does the job intended [i.e. I'm dry in there now. ]
