2 days work instead of a morning, to replace the 2 drive belts on my L5A.
Belts were well stretched and as I was ordering one for my Tom Senior, I decided to get these 2 as well.
So off comes the outer cover and old belts removed, shock horror the are A66 belts (shorter) not the correct A68 belts, partly explains why the motor seems to be too high. The muppet has fitted belts for an L5.
Next the motor won't slide down when the adjusters are unwound and nyloc nuts have been fitted to the coach bolts that slide up and down the adjustment frame. The 2 lower ones are turning the bolt round.
So now I'll have to take the inner cover off to get at the frame. Easy job, 2 gear wheels - one is on an adjustable bracket for meshing, lower gear wheel drives the screw cutting box. Idler comes off OK, the drive gear is a different matter, it's got a 1"arbour spacer between the nut and gear wheel, rather than the 7/8" it should have and a home made key. The gear is tight on the shaft, but gentle leverage with 2 short tyre bars and it's off.
Now I can see the motor and the quickest way is to disconnect the wiring and take the whole lot off, tight space and a small trolley jack and it's off. The photo shows why the coach bolts were turning (the right one is already fixed), it looks as if it's designed to allow the motor to be removed by loosening the nuts and sliding the motor up or down to allow the bolt heads to come out through the cut out saving the hassle of lining up the pullies, the 4 mounting bolts onto the lathe frame slide for and aft.
Re fitted the motor and then left it till this morning, as the covers would need a good clean inside and out. Lathe is the cleanest it's ever been, tools and scrap sorted as well.
Now the motor has decided to die or the contactor needs the thermal cut out checked.
Mind you it had done this occasionally anyway, but only at 1000 rpm none of the lower speeds.

Replaced the battery in my watch which was an excuse to use the tool I bought with my 6mm watchmakers lathe. The back unscrews. I hadn't noticed the tool has Omega engraved on it! That should have doubled the price 
Also fixed the circular saw which gave up the ghost yesterday. Luckily just a loose wire.

Packed and off to the customer. If anyone knows a manufacturer/supplier of branded packing tape let me know, I want to get some for boxing stuff like this.
Interesting little job. Got to buy some emery tape and some more round HSS tool steel for the boring head.

Just disassembled the Bullfinch torches I acquired yesterday. They cleaned up well and all the tapered valve needles looked perfect. Gave one of them to my neighbour who is a roofer.

How many do you have to order?
I looked in to custom tape a few months ago, and it can be quite a high minimum order, but overall doesn't work out that much more expensive than buying decent quality tape.
A couple links for places I looked at are -

One pack. That’s normally 48. But it can be 72 for smaller sized rolls.

I buy Bosch partly for that reason as non of the Yogi's on site use it. Use Makita and you're asking for trouble....

Long story short, next door lay empty for several months after the decease of our elderly female neighbour. During that time, two fence panels blew down as a result of posts rotted at their bases. The vendors did a jury-rig fix which lasted long enough to sell the house. New neighbours moved in a while back and have been faced with a fair bit of remedial work and improvements internally, and to the external structure of the house, so sorting the fence was a lesser priority. Our fence was part trellis and with brushwood screening below. With two of their panels down, the wind took its toll on the screening along with its age. So I bought some 100 mm x 22 mm treated timber and set to as per the photo. Quite pleased with the finished result but less pleased with the aching leg muscles which were a result of too much kneeling!
