What was broken, I have the 1/2" version.

Nothing really, but there's a wire loom from the switch to the PCB.
It's hardwired on the switch but has a connector on the PCB side wich is not designed to withstand such vibrations.
I've put it back in place and glued.
It worked again

Ah. No, I've only got the std membrane.
I have a batten to affix the half-slate in place, & another for the full slate to fly over the half-slate.

needs Eave support tray along the bottom, pic explains why ..Also top of your fascia has to be the same height as the batten to stop the slate eave course drooping.

Ah! I've not seen those before! I think (think only, this is new to me) that I'm replacing the wall plate etc of the existing design.... & the wall plate protrudes about 50mm past the foot of the rafters.... so when the battens are laid - the slates sit on the edge of the wall plate nice & flat. So, I thought that (like the original) I'd not need anything else, & the fascia can just be added under the slates, nailed to the wallplate (slates will overhang the wall plate by 2"). The only change I've made apart from timber framework repairs - is to add membrane under the new battens.

Does that make any sense?

Fixed the pub ice machine. Fitted the new "synchron" motor and tested at home. Took it up and left it working Thursday. Went in Friday and it had packed up again. Took it home again. Found the little 12V pump wasn't working. Stripped that and it was clogged with scale, I presume shaken loose by the car trips. Not dirty, just like pure white chalk courtesy of our very hard water.

Been working fine all day Saturday after I left it. Popped back in Sunday just to make sure and all's well.

Does my membrane need to be cut off above the wall plate so it avoids the wet rot mentioned, replaced by these trays?

Looks like I need to get some Fascia Board as well, as @roofman image shows the tray over the Fascia (which of course makes sense).
I've not done any roofing before (necessity being the mother of invention etc) beyond being a helper once in twice humping slates & nailing battens, so working it out as I go (basically copying & repairing the knackered framework & arrangement that's there).

It's an old milking parlour / outbuilding roof section - one of two extensions (one either side) added to the original old Forge stone building on the end of the house - this being the older one of the two, stone built and cut into the original roof (a Hip Roof ??).
As such, I was a bit less apprehensive about having a go at it, thinking that it's not as critical as a dwelling - so it's my "learning / apprentice piece" .
I'll have the other side to tackle at some point, and a few slate repairs on the main original part roof. I've noted that above the other (later, red brick) extension side the main roof is felted.... but not this side.... so it might be that I have to redo that as well before I get too old & knackered!

I'll jump onto Screwfix and order some (I work right around the corner from a branch ).

I've actually just ordered a 10-pack of trays from Toolstation (enough to do the other side as well when I can get to it).

Thanks to all of you for the heads-up & pointers - it'll be a better job for it I hope!

I've never slated a roof before, so I'm hoping it all goes ok! I think if I keep everything square off the bottom, it'll work out OK (I'm paranoid about the outer edge though, so need to check how far it runs out of square v the horizontal battens so I don't get in a mess with slate sizes on the outer Weatherboard endup to the Ridge.

I have a mix of old surviving slates I'll need to redrill, & unused composite slates of the same size & general appearance. I also have some larger composite slates that I can cut down if I don't have enough slates (or if I needed a slightly wider slate here & there on what is not a square roof).

I plan to start on the bottom right on the end wall (the open end that is straight) and work my way over to the hip roof where I need to meet the leadwork at an approximate 45-degree angle. I hope this is right, as it seems like the easiest way R-L).

Got the knee pads, but the helper is a problem. Missus is game but afraid of heights (despite it being 1-storey, she would manage to get on the scaffold, but no way she'll be up the roof - if I got her up there she'd either have to become a Gargoyle, or I'd have to shoot her off ).
The Slate & a Halfs.... yes I've heard of those. No idea where I'd get some but I dare say one of the local Builders Merchants will have them.

I need a new Ridge Tile solution as well, as I had to use an air chisel to get the old ones off as they'd been concreted on (they were the wrong ones anyway [ I think] with quite an acute angle). I understand there are modern replacement solutions for traditional ridge tiles... something else I need to consider.

Ridge tiles come in various angles to suit, Ive only ever used the concrete Marley stick on with cement type. They are various dry ridge systems too, of which I know nothing about. Sure @roofman will advise you on the different brands

RE dry ridge here are photos of my recent retrofit dry ridge if it helps - storm blew off many of my cemented down ridge tiles and caused damage so I went dry ridge with mechanical fixings and its very strong.

Very nice! I think I fancy dry ridge type. I'll have a flap of membrane to go over the ridge woodwork.
(The other side of the roof needs to come off before I can sort ridges as it's knackered too, but in one piece atm as storm Darragh only attacked the side I'm on).
Interesting looking extra piece of weatherproofing you've laid on below the ridge tiles.... is that something you need as well as the Dry Ridges?

My house has traditional bitumen underlay from the 80's.

UV light had degraded the existing bitumen felt at the ridge. Which meant in my scenario any rain water which could reach there would be straight into the inside of the roof.

So I used DPC strips that I had to hand when I was working on my roof over a weekend and added those to help redirect any water that might but should not get in there back onto the top of the existing felt below.

I took advantage of some help from the OH, and the dry, calm weather tonight. I got onto the roof ASAP after work (up there just after 5pm) and was done at 8:30pm. I ran out of roof batten so not  quite done.... but nearly ready to fit Weatherboards, those trays I just learned about, then dive in and see how Iget on with some slating

The fender renovation took a step forward, epoxy primed the right fender for the volvo 850, still need to do some more filler work I noticed on the left one.

The chrome side pipe on a neighbours transit van fell off at the rear, the bracket seemed to have been bolted to a stud coming out of the inner face of the sill but had detached itself.

I ran a weld down the side of the bracket onto the sill. He was over the moon.

I put a camera on the pond a while ago, but the cat5 cable was just thrown onto the ground "temporarily", so only a matter of time before it failed. Its been down for about 3 months and I'm getting ear ache I buried 20m of blue HDPE pipe a couple of weeks ago and eventually got around to putting the new cable through it, I also moved the camera so it was more central on the pond. I just need to adjust the camera a tad to the left and its all sorted.
