Theses Cabinet Screwdrivers are nice tools, but they do get a hard life.

The wood is good stuff, but it does soak up oils.

Some will sand the stains out and expose the clean wood. I have done, but this one had a interesting pattern.

Drying the French polish in the sun.

When the polish is hard it gets a wax finish and the blade is heated and wax applied.

As I said, they get some abuse.

Getting new handles is getting harder and more costly. But they can be saved.

Don't use a plane, the beech will tear out. Use a bench belt sander and remove the same amout from bothy sides.

Theses scapers are good tools, but are let down by the poor paint on the handle.

Not to worry.

The paint comes off very easy.
I also replaced the steel rivets with copper roves.

This came my way, from a Forum Member.

It needed some TLC, mainly fixing the handle.

The handle has been cleaned and 3 coats of French polish applied. The tang was cleaned up and now is ready to be fitted.

The tang is heated so spit boils on it. Then fitted to the handle.

It was my fathers. He was an engineer, he is still breathing but sadly has dementia so wouldn't remember. I am glad that it will live on rather than rusting away in my shed

Sounds like your company hires Baboons Depends on the application. For my uses and most of my customers uses, it’s a weak point we would all rather avoid.We also have mechanical sympathy along with torque wrenches…

OUR fitters know what they are doing - it's the customers fitters and maintenance guys who just use a longer length of scaffold pipe - and when you have hundreds of machines around the world, with a massive variation in the plants people mechanical abilities . . . I'm in a plant in the US now where most of the day shift are good, experienced people, with the odd one who isn't. The night shift however . . .


However, its not actually a weak point, rather the other way around - thread runout concentrates stress at one point - an undercut distributes the axial stress evenly. If your threaded fasteners survive without it . . . you're wasting money and material by making them too big

We managed to start the A35 for the first time in 55 years, yesterday and thats when we found out it only has an exhaust pipe the went just under the car sounded like a dragster

The job was simple…
My young daughter would like one of her fairy’s in the garden to have her head back, following a distressing incident involving her younger brother…

And then the welding helmet comes up!
Oops! Total job time is increased to 30 minutes due to having to convince my little girl that fairy’s can have beards! Phew!
Mr fairy is returned to the garden to happily rejoin his friends!

I fixed a bow thruster today.

Took 6 hours.

Had to get lunch, spare bit which didn't fit, drive boat for 1.5 hours to pull it out, as clients didn't feel safe driving it, then took a couple of hours to pull boat out, bodge the propellor back on the bow thruster and run away.

You may need to zoom in on the middle to see the problem.

Bought new and had to be fixed. Cheap hammer & dolly set. Original surface finish on the larger dolly for comparison. Maybe I went a bit overkill on the polished dolly, but the hammer faces can be like that IMO. I guess I will have to see how it holds up in actual use, the dollies look to be cast iron, who knows how hard the hammers are. I will fix up all the rest of the dollies, maybe not like the 1st but near enough.
