In trying to fix wifes beetle passenger door that will not open I snapped the end off one of my favorite ancient RS long thin flatblade screwdrivers 
I then made the right tool out of a brazing rod to get through the cable aperture which worked, to find that the mech is toast and will not release the door
Clearing up I then stood on a 45 deg pick lying at just the right spot to go straight through my trainer and into my foot a fair way
Happy days grrr
